Put differently, pets make your party stronger, unlocking different characters just makes your party different.
Yup the pets need to be acquired once before you can buy them in the shop.
there is no need for this kind of spoiler to this simple, beginners, question, why ruin it?
If you have a smol deck. If you have a big deck then you might not see it, and even then it's just 1 less card draw that you dont even need to play.
But just now I manage to kill the boss without it able to kill my pets so it's doable on low madness (0 for me since I'm only tryin to get achievements).
Before I figured this out, then I depended on the mosquito to purge my tank from bleed. As it died, I had no controll at all over hís bleed, and since the build was heavy into self bleed (I don't remebmer the details) that character could either not play key cards, or play them and die.
It is a nieche situation, but it did mean that I failed against the boss, and I was not happy about it.
(Good joke about the "if you have a small deck" by the way, every deck should be small...)
