Cornelius applying fire to himself every turn

Quite a few of his abilities do fire based damage to himself as its part of him ramping up damage. you can get abilities to transfer it or convert it into more damage.

Yea, but every single turn he's applying 7 burn to himself and dying fast af.

If you spec into burn on the skill tree, he gains more burn per turn. That is probably why he is dying fast. The best way to work around it is to get fire resistance armor or spec more into fire resistances in the skill tree.

Get 2x Healing Rain cards for your healer and upgrade them to only apply to your team ASAP. Also, get 2x Dispel, really powerful and versatile.

Self burn Cornelius is one of the most powerful, and in my opinion, fun builds you can run in this game. In early playthroughs, it is more difficult, but once you start getting more perks to improve your block (remember that block also blocks burn damage) and speed, lighting yourself on fire to set the world ablaze is tremendously satisfying.

To add to the good advice already given: Cornelius also starts with a decent fire resistance, so gaining even a little extra means he likely only gets half as much damage as the stacks suggest. A negligible amount most of the time.

I tried the self burn cornelius, but it seems very difficult to kill the fire boss with him. Now its no longer a problem anymore since you can skip it and just run the other two areas, but before that I just couldn't get past the boss with him in the party. At one point I tried to save all my shards and gold and only build self burn after the fire boss, but that seemed unnecessary work.
