But like I said, I get the same exact dialog error when launching the GOG release through Galaxy 2.0, so seems like (for me) it's not isolated to Steam... I'm on Windows 11 Pro 21H2, 5950X, 3080 Ti, 32GB RAM, super lean vanilla MSDN Windows install and I only use this machine for gaming, so just has Steam and Galaxy installed outside of the up-to-date NVIDIA drivers

Based on what I heard, a full reinstall of Steam and Gog could do the trick.
You could also try to see if you have a Player.log here:
AppData\LocalLow\Daedalic Entertainment GmbH\Insurmountable\
If so, it would be great if you could join our Discord and drop your Log there, maybe we find some clues there. Otherwise, if the full reinstall doesn't work, we will need some time to figure this out.
Thanks again!
A possible cause for this might be that DirectX is not installed or at least not installed properly, so that is something you could try. However, this is just a guess a this point. We will update you as soon as we exactly know the cause of this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience!
If so, what should help start the game is to install the Visual C++ Redistributable 2022:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170
Please let us know if it works!
I am getting the same issue and reinstalling Visual C++ Redistributable 2022 did not fix the issue.
It does not stop me from playing the game but it is irritating (though not irritating enough to warrant a full reinstall of Steam)
I have the same issue, 3060ti btw
