Grapple Tournament - Official FAQ and tips
What VR platforms can I play Grapple Tournament on?
- Steam VR: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1384320/Grapple_Tournament/
- Meta Quest: https://www.meta.com/experiences/4195451623800286/

PC VR versions are all playable on Meta Quest with Link Cable, Air Link or Virtual Desktop.

Cross-play? Yes!
Yes the game is cross-play between all platforms including Steam, Oculus and Meta Quests.

Development Roadmap
We are constantly improving the game and adding more content.
You can find the development roadmap on the Grapple Tournament Trello page:

Meta Quest network issue via Virtual Desktop?
Open Steam VR, go to home then load the game in SteamVR, this enables you to select "Oculus SDK mode". (You might need to reinstall Virtual Desktop or Steam if this doesn't work, then try again.)
Another fix would be to change from your current 5G channel to one that is used by fewer devices.

Can't find a game or need friends?
We recommend playing during the evening hours (US time) and on the weekends.
Join our Discord (https://discord.gg/A4fUKDC) that has a ping system so you can notify others when you'd like to play.

Is this multiplayer only?
No. You can also play against bots on multi maps, play on practice range against drones (in Early Access) and co-op mini missions focusing on grapple swinging with your buddies are work in progress.

What to do against VR/motion sickness?
- You can enable the field of view limiter in the menu/Options/Game/ Tunneling Vignette ON
- You can change to Snap turning in the menu/Options/Game/ Turn type to Snap turn
- You change the control orientation in the menu/Options/Game/ Locomotion based on (head or controller)
- Take regular breaks and drink water

How to use the grappling hook effectively?
- you can start the grappling from the ground faster with jumping
- the direction your grapple device is facing at the moment when the hook gets attached to a surface will be the direction your grapple movement will start (so controller direction, not camera direction like in Titanfall but similar mechanic)
- in the air you can alter your course with the movement joystick, plus you can even stop and change directions
- you can grapple to a ledge above you by shooting the hook to edge of the ledge, having your hand pointing up when the hook attaches (not directly on the edge) and while going up you pull the movement joystick away from the ledge.
- and there is the grapple hop (up to you to find out how)

Notes:
Swinging wise we found that long distances and big open maps are just not fun enough with the current pixel densities of VR headsets yet and lead to too much meaningless searching for enemies or hiding, which slows down the game. It's also harder to hit someone if they can constantly grapple too far and changing directions mid-way favors the pros only. The player speed is somewhat limited compared to 2D-screen shooters to tackle VR nausea but with practice you can still fly fast. Currently players can't change grappling directions frequently to invoke player decisions: do I need the high ground or am I better off with mobility on current level?

Any pro tips for the game?
- you can change snap/smooth turning and controller/head oriented locomotion in the options menu
- you can double jump and wall jump
- you always have a bow, with your right hand pull the little white arrows on your left wrist to summon it
- you always have an energy blade, you can grab it behind your right ear/shoulder with either the grip or trigger
- big weapons can be held with two hands and this way you get a secondary fire mode (minigun shield, railgun sphere, shotgun grenade, rocket launcher pre-load rocket)
- you can change your backup weapon on your belt in the options menu / customizations / loadout
- you can also change the position of your backup weapon, sword, grapple and bow in the options menu
- you can manually reload a gun by moving it under your opposite arm (like holstering a police pistol to your other-side-holster)

Voice chat not working?
If you can't hear others or others can't hear you please check the following:
1. Make sure your VR headset is your default input and output device in the Sound Settings in Windows
2. Make sure to check your audio settings in-game to see if your voice chat is enabled and/or it's not muted

Is it possible to self-host a multiplayer server on a dedicated computer with a VR headset?

The game could do that but the performance is not good enough so it is not enabled yet. We are planning on improving the game to support it some day

遊戲好玩是好玩 連線方式 希望能多樣化 p2p 或是能提共伺服器工具
不然你用配對方式 永遠找不到玩家
The game is fun to be fun. The connection method hopes to diversify p2p or provide common server tools
Otherwise you will never find a player

Thank you for the feedback, we are working on it!

Since this game will come to Quest, will it have crossplay between Quest and PC (Steam)? Would be great, because more players :)
Mr. Chief  [developer] Jun 16, 2021 @ 3:43am
Yes, all platforms including PC and mobile VR (Quests etc.) will be all cross-play. This is considered from the beginning of the development.
