State of game for new player
well. I have been looking to try the game out for a long time since its release but just didn't have time. Then region prices rose, and I heard that seasons 3 and 4 weren't received well.
So my question is, is it a good time for a relatively new player in fighting games to pick it up now? Is there enough players on low levels, or will I have to tolerate a couple dozen hours until my skill is enough to show some fight?
Oh, and is it good enough without season passes? character-wise or DLC characters just too much better?

I think It's a very good time for someone to pick the game up

The complaints about season 3 and 4 have mostly been fixed so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

There is plenty of players and you shouldn't have trouble finding players on lower levels / players of your skill level.

The game has an incredibly varied roster of characters, and the base kit almost always has someone you'll love to play. The dlc characters aren't "better" in any way to the base characters, and when starting out the least of your worries should be where characters rank on a tier list. Just pick someone that looks cool or someone that you like to play.

If you have any questions or need help, feel free to add me on steam :ggxxacsol::MHRISE_Felyne:

I think the game is in a pretty good spot right now unless you're playing against Potemkin. IDK what they were smoking when they decided to buff him even more after he was already very strong last patch.

In terms of DLC, usually the way it goes is new DLC characters are released underpowered and buffed later. Dizzy is currently a bit too weak, Johnny is a bit too strong and the rest of them are a mixed bag. Overall you don't need DLC characters to enjoy the game.

there's never a "bad time" to start a fighting game, even if the fighting game is like 15 years old.
sure you'll always find more people on day 1 of a fighting game, but there's no fighting games who don't have at least some kind of communities, like discords or group of friends.

like, my friends and me are still playing Aquapazza on Playstation 3 and we still organize tournaments on it.

and here, we are talking about Guilty Gear Strive, a game that has ~3000 players playing the game at the moment you're reading this.

just have fun.

About the first one, the game is reaaaally active when it comes to the community, so you shouldn't have problems finding people on your skill level (You can always check up discord anyways)
About the second question, the dlc characters do add to the experience, but they're pretty balanced in comparison to the base chrs (Must mention that the best character right now, Ramlethal, is part of the base roaster)

once you reach floor 10, it becomes unbearable with the tier monkeys, it is fun .. but the balance of characters becomes more obvious once you reach higher floors forcing you to become a monkey yourself

Nah. You're forced to become a monkey by like floor 4. Speaking from experience.

This is just plain false. You can preform well with any of the characters regarding what tier they are in. If the balance would be that horrid the tier lists wouldn't change this much depending on the region :er_sad:

Yeah. If you're playing against anyone but those you meet online.

USA East Coast is on steroids. You have to sweat much harder there than elsewhere.

I've gone all the way from the bottom of tower to celestial with faust, there is no need to pick a character based on where they sit on a made up tier list.

I only started playing a couple weeks ago and I'm having a decent time in USA East servers. I've had a good mix of curbstomps and players my level. It's been pretty fun learning the game and screwing around with randos. If that's not your cup of tea you can always hop into a discord server

Every character is viable, including the base roster. The DLC characters tend to have more variety, but the balance is such that even the best character vs the worst character really could go either way.

There are a lot of players currently, including quite a few new players still. Of course, the higher up the ladder you go, the more players you'll find. But you shouldn't have a problem finding matches at the lower levels.
