Curious on how to buy the game if I just want to test it first.
Is it possible to just buy the base game and upgrade to the blazing edition later on (at a discount?) or would I be forced to buy every dlc separately once I get the base game?

Currently that's not possible, and you'd indeed have to buy everything separately.

It's my understanding that the base game + all the DLC is the same price as the blazing edition. The blazing edition just makes it simple by putting it in one purchase, but the cost is the same.

Guess that depends on where you buy them xD

On the steam store there's quite a huge price difference.

I'm sure regional prices come into play as well.

If you want to try all of the characters, you can buy the blazing edition and still choose to refund before the deadline.
