GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE-

GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE-

Statistiche:
Ok, I like that it is A.B.A, but...
Why the change in design? It doesn't look as interesting and iconic as the original.
I really don't get it.

at this point ill take what i can get!
Unsure if this is a bait post or not but I'll give my two cents.

I'm 99% sure that every character has had some sort of cosmetic change going into GGST. While some are not as "iconic" as others, it's just the natural progression of things. If they kept the looks the exact same throughout all generations of the game, it would get repetitive and boring. The changes in looks can also signify things that happened previously in lore or in the game, like Faust. While I would say I generally like her design, I wish the key resembled baphomet more when in Jealous rage, but I would say she's still recognizable as ABA, which is the only point I think anyone should care about.

Edit: first jester award ever. Thanks for the free points.

I don't think you need major design changes to keep things fresh. Gameplay changes are should be enough for that.

Sure, characters went through design changes, but most of them are pretty similar to previous generations to the point some people wouldn't even notice the difference. And even some that got some major design changes are recognizable, like Bridget. A.B.A looks like someone cosplaying as A.B.A without trying much. Lost the red hair, the short hair, the pale skin.

I'll give you that Faust is pretty different though, but I feel like it kinda worked out. In the end, changing the design drastically is a hit or miss and you can't blame people for thinking it is a miss.

I guess I just don't view it as major as other people. I feel like, while not what I had in mind for ABA, I think it still goes fine. Comparing it to the original is okay too. As for gameplay over cosmetic changes, you can technically do that, although, especially with different story arcs and stuff, you get to a point where you have to change your characters if you wanna reinforce story and make things feel cohesive. But that's neither here nor there. I'm sure her design will grow on us and I'm also sure that we will have mods that give her back her looks from the older games.
GameBanana will likely be your friend here :)
Uughh... longhair... pepe is hard
Arcsys is stupid
It's not a redesign for ABA, its just character growth. It can be explained. She's older, her hair got longer and changed color. It can be fixed with a pallet swap. It's a nonissue. AC+R still exists and is playable.

Bridget and Baiken are redesigns. People love or hate them because of it, even going as far to use mods to change them. There's no inbetween.

Testament isn't a redesign but I would rather have the old design instead. I even feel like Dizzy or Jam's Xrd design isn't great either because they fail to show character growth nor be faithful, and hopefully they actually show some character growth for strive.

Also there's literally no continuity between games. Every game is a different timeline. All you're doing is playing that game's chosen timeline.
Why change the design... yeah. Im asking myself that too with how they butchered my Faust in this game. A funny, wacky, putting his fingers you know where cartoon character. I want back my VIVA WATASHI Faust that has his poggo stick stance. Its why i fell in love and main him from the moment i first played X2.

I would refund the game just because of that if i still could. Huge dissapointment. Bring back my Faust that made me a fan of this game. Because now im not a fan at all with all of the directions this game went to.
She looks great guys, you're really stretching it at this point. she hasn't made an appearance in god knows how long and you're telling me that the notion of spicing up her appearance and giving her some cooler aesthetics is going"against her design"? come on.
Green with jelousy!
Ahahah! Do you get it? Green!
Still better than Elphelt's redesign. She went from iconic guns and roses bridal wear, to a baby metal I-no clone.

.

Just say you want them to censor both Jam and Dizzy outfit, lol. Stop beating around the bush. You are a supposed Guilty Gear fan that is embarrassed at what your character looks like to the modern audience, then again, so is modern day Daisuke. That's why Arcsys may probably redesign them.

Baiken is very similar to what it was. If you show Strive Baiken to someone that only played the OG game, they will know it is Baiken. Bridget is the same, although I can see a little more struggle recognizing them. However, A.B.A is a different case, if not for Paracelsus, I believe many people wouldn't recognize her. The main reason people would recognize them would be because of context. Knowing that it is Guilty Gear and it is a girl with bandages and eyebags, it must be A.B.A or a new character that looks like them.

Calling aging character growth is a little bit of a stretch, but regardless, there are many characters that aged but still have a recognizable design and, to be honest, that is the standard, not the exception, and for a reason. Also, alternate timelines is mostly a modern excuse for stories that make no sense and we know story is not the main focus of Guilty Gear anyway.

A.B.A was the first character that I saw from Guilty Gear and that got me interested for the franchise. Her design caught my eye. That being said, what I enjoyed about her was her design, I really don't mind whatever the hell happens to her gameplay. That might be the case for other people (but not necessarily strict to the design), for the same or another character.

Regardless though, there will probably be a mod for classic A.B.A design and I will use it, but it is a shame it isn't the standard A.B.A experience anymore.
