Average floor 9 players are... apes. They have no matchup knowledge. They have no game plan. They don't know what they're doing. They always mash when under pressure. They always jump in in neutral. They don't know what plus frame means. They don't know what spacing is. They're no batter than you. They just spent more time than you in mashing buttons. If you spend a little time to learn the theoretic stuffs in fighting games, then you can surpass them very quickly.
Don't worry, this game is far from being dead.
It'll "die" when the next Guilty Gear game comes out enough time has passed that everybody who focuses on the latest title has moved over, and then Strive will persist for decades with a small but dedicated playerbase just big enough to populate the ladder during peak hours.
http://ratingupdate.info/stats its this site did you mean?
Yes.
Real talk? I'm one of those apes. Mind explaining what... Like, any of that means? It'd be nice to get better, but everything seems to be so jargon-heavy that I can't even begin to understand what they're talking about.
Explaining all of these in detail would be too lengthy, I'll just pick an example and link a few videos here.
The most educational thing that comes into my mind is Leo's 236H (cross up)[www.dustloop.com]. When Leo successfully cross up with this move, he enters backturn stance. Because backturn Leo is so hard to block and so scary, people on floor 9 don't want to block against it. But that's what get them killed because they don't know "Leo IS PLUS". Being plus means after doing something, one recovers from that move a few frames earlier than their opponent. If Leo whiffs a 236H after 2D or heavy DP's hard knockdown, HE IS PLUS. He will be able to start his next attack earlier than you, so if you press a button after wake up, you will lose. This is also the case when you block the cross up, because Leo is still plus after that. You can beat him with a invincible reversal. But again, Leo is plus, he's the one who chooses what to do next not you, he has the initiative. But floor 9 players don't know that, they mash buttons.
So, I just explained some of my points with that example:

Thanks for the information and the videos. That's definitely more detail than I've gotten from basically anyone so far, so hopefully that'll be enough to give me a foundation to begin to understand things.
