My advice is to not worry too much, you're playing against other people and not some omnipotent being after all.
I restorted to play with my friends, because they always had the same level as me, and also it was comfortable to play in general.
You can still enjoy Fighting games by playing all by yourself, by playing against the CPU and stuff, this means you can have a comfortable experience.
Like others said in the posts, once you play online and get the hang of it, you will realize that they might be a lot of players with a similar level to you. I play Guilty Gear XX and that game has a even **smaller** playerbase and i still find the ocassional low to mid-level player that I can enjoy with. Just play and have fun!
After a few days of feeling that way when playing online, I realized that what I felt wasn't just anxiety, but also exhilaration. I was excited at the idea that I was throwing myself at somebody stronger or more experienced than me, and when I won matches... chef's kiss. And with that realization, what at first was a negative feeling quickly became an extremely positive one; what used to hold me back was now pushing me forward. I've been chasing that high ever since.
People are all built different, so it probably wouldn't work for everyone, but try finding the excitement in playing agsinst randos online. Try to recontextuslize what you're feeling into something to chase, something that tells you you're really alive. And if you can't do that, then instead try to be patient with yourself and understand that repeated exposure to the stimulus will lessen future reactioms to the stimulus: play more online matches, feel less anxious over time.
And just play in Public lobbies. Losing or wining doesn't matter in those.
Losing is learning, and despite what the other person may think about your performance whether toxic or not you will learn from them beating you down and become better at the game.
There are 1000's of people who are better than you playing and it is very anxiety inducing and scary but if you push forward despite your anxieties you'll learn and have fun I swear. <3
