The literal theme song of the game says, quite literally, "norms, standards, rules, and guidelines are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" and the whole theme of the game's story has been the cast moving on from the events of the story of previous games, finding themselves, and entering new stages of their lives.

That would make sense if the entire cast was changed. The issue is that most of the changes were made to potentially "problematic" characters. You could have made that argument if it didn't happen too many times by now. All of the re-designs were made to make the characters less of a problem to mainstream western audiences. Whether it's de-lolification, changing outfits to be less risque (I-NO for example), or completely changing a character's motivation to appeal to American social movements (Bridget now accepting being groomed).

I like the game, but aesthetically a lot of the characters were downgraded. A few look better, like Potemkin imo, but overall the old designs were a lot better.

Wish they wouldn't copy American hypocrisy too though. I have a feeling this is going to come back to bite them.

It may not fully have been the US market too. I think there's regulations in China about banning effeminate males, so labelling Bridget as male might have been problematic.

For the record I do think modern global politics is sapping the creativity out of games. It's still a bunch of old guys setting the rules just that they're treating characters like technical products. Certain body parts must not exceed X size, skin exposure must not exceed X%...
