Which DLC characters are "must haves"?

Unlike SF or MK, I really don't know any of the characters from this franchise. I just picked this up, and the character roster seems a bit...sparse. Who do I need to grab? I'm not the best at fighting games and I'm brand new to this one.

I think Elphelt is really nice right now. Testament, Sin, and Johnny are also good picks.

It would help to know which of the base character you're gravitating towards and why. The ones I listed are easy to play, but that's not what everybody's looking for. So everybody will have different "must have" picks.

There is no such thing as "must haves". Doesn't matter if the character is easy or hard to learn, what position they are on various tier lists, all that matters is what YOU find to look interesting.

Look up character trailers/matches/theme songs and figure out what you vibe with. It won't amount to anything when you pick a recommended character but don't vibe with them. If you think Zato-1, one of the harder characters in the game, looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool then you pick ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Zato-1.

And while the roster is on the smaller size, each char is unique enough

not really must haves but if you want the season pass with the most characters and most value, get season 1.

• Season 1 - Goldlewis Dickinson, Jack-O', Happy Chaos, Baiken and Testament (5 characters)
  
• Season 1 has 3 very hard to play characters (happy chaos,jack-o and goldlewis) and two balanced ease to use characters (testament and baiken)
  
• Season 2 - Bridget, Sin Kiske, Bedman?, and Asuka R♯
  
• Season 2 Has the most unique characters on the roaster, characters like asuka R and Bedmen, but also 2 balanced/rushdown characters like bridget and sin
  
• Season 3 - Johnny, Elphelt, ??? , ???

The only base character I really found I liked was May. Adorable, speedy, good reach, and Mr. Dolphin is cute too.

You might enjoy Jack-O, Bridget, or Elphelt.

Strangely, I don't like strive... but Elphelt could make me change my opinion of the game.

bit a bias for me but elphelt is what i recommend due to its easy to play with wacky fun mechanics. from a lovestruck girl to a rockstar one lol

Just recently got into it myself and am debating getting some of the dlc characters, although my current main is Giovanna... really enjoying the game so far

think for the dlc characters, characters like elphelt and johnny and baiken are strong, with picks like bridget and testament being very solid too ^^
