EVO's in two days, so expect massive information drops for every game's 2023 and 2024 plans.
Also crossplays with the windows store version of strive. The steamcharts numbers aren't all the relevant anymore since virtually every version of the game can play with every other version.
Strive is barebones from previous GG entries and the game still has plenty of issues post-launch.
15% discount on season pass 1 and no discount on pass 2? Oh please.
He's a salty Xrd boomer that's still mad he can't mash P into sweep, yet also hypocritically ignoring that the only guilty gear game with a million moves was +R, and +R doesn't represent gear as a series.
It's probably one of the best fighting games out there, period, all time, but the online has been trouble since release and no matter how much we complain they never fix it - a lot of the issues seem to either be amplified or even caused by higher latency to japan, which is where the servers are, so it might just be a classic case of "works on my machine". Either way, they either don't understand the problems or they don't care enough to fix them, which both have the same end result: the lobbies are a struggle at best.
Anyway, between the tower not leading to quick "matchmaking" and the "An error occurred during matchmaking", you can expect a long time to get a match unless you treat it like a discord fighter and just find someone to play before you even hop in.
It really is a great game, it's just that there's a long period of time/effort between "deciding to play guilty gear strive" and "actually playing guilty gear strive". Even if you magically get quick matchmaking, it's not unusual to spend more time out of matches than in, between the loading and everything. And when the servers are coughing up blood you can easily expect 10+ minutes between matches.
imo, hold off until they make some update saying "We have finally fixed the online lobbies (for real this time)" and the comments say "They actually did it!".
But it's awesome that there's cross-play! I usually check the community hub to see how many people are playing, but I guess with cross-play, there's a lot more people playing than Steam tells me.
I'm glad bc I feel like I could jump in and find some good opponents that are around my skill level bc there's so many people from all major platforms playing the game. I'm sure there's tons of players right now since EVO is going on. I think 120,000+ were just watching the EVO GGST Top 6 on the EVO Twitch channel.
Xrd has a better roster, depth, better tutorial, more fun content, better lobby system and menu navigation is actually smooth. It is arguably the best in series.
The only big issues were reselling the game as Rev 1 and Rev 2 and no rollback at its prime time.
Strive had the annoyingly long loading when booting up the game or navigating to online, stripped moveset across the roster, feedback ignored regarding lobby system and damage, popular characters removed from base to sell season passes / DLC and reduced fun content.
Strive's greatest strength is its netcode. Season 3 tries to return some depth back to the game.
+R is showing age but it is still a great game.

With the above out of the way, Vassago could not defend this:
"15% discount on season pass 1 and no discount on pass 2? Oh please."
At the end of the day, play what you want. I am just throwing my opinions.
