Playing on Keyboard
How bad of an idea is it to play Guilty Gear Strive on a keyboard? Does the game even allow play without a controller?
I have never played a fighting game in my entire life and I really want to change that with Guilty Gear Strive but I am afraid that playing on keyboard would be a giant detriment compared to using a controller.
Is there anybody that plays fighting games on keyboard and could share their experience about it? Information specifically about guilty gear series would be even more welcome.

The only thing I can tell is that in previous games (GGXXAC+R) I had no big troubles with keyboard, and I can execute pretty much any moves or combos after training for it for appropriate time. But you have to make sure that your keyboard have anti-ghosting feature, so that it is actually possible to press more than 3 buttons at the same time.

i play GG series on keyboard while i have a perfectly working DualShock4
and i don't see any reason why Strive shouldn't support Keyboard like any older game

I play every single fighting game on keyboard because I think it's better than controllers tbh.
But at the end of the day it is a matter of preference, but I would highly recommend using Keyboard first to see if you like it.

I played fighting games on keyboard for decades. Just make sure your keyboard doesn't have ghosting.
Today, I prefer my custom stickless (HitBox like) controller.

It works fine IMO. I wrote a guide on the subject a while back for Guilty Gear Xrd

Things might change with -STRIVE-, but I figure most of it ought be applicable.

I can't imagine you'd be at a disadvantage or anything if you used a keyboard, I mean, mixboxes exist for a reason.

I haven't played GG with a keyboard but I have played some other fighting games with a keyboard before and the controls are usually pretty simple. Arrow keys to move, asd, zxc for your buttons. It's easy enough to get used to.

Thank you for all the answers. I will 100% look up into this ghosting and play the game when it releases

I just forgot today that you could literally plug-in your keyboard to the PS4. I'm probably going to do that for tonight while going against some friends.

I wouldn't count on the PS4 version having keyboard support. The PS4 UI has some support for them, but most games seem not to support the use of keyboards or mice.

You could still try it, though; I'd be pleasantly surprised if it did work.

Honestly the whole "pad is better for fighting games" thing is a myth. As mentioned before, as long as you don't have ghosting on your keyboard, it works great.

Keyboard is pretty much a Hitbox controller with more buttons, and Hitbox is one of the best, if not THE best controllers for fighting games.

Are the movelists similar from Xrd to Strive, im thinking Sol or Ky? Id like to test the overdrives and halfcircles if they are easy to do on the keyboard. Couldnt really make much out of it in the beta as i dont really use controllers for fighters.

I used to play a bunch of Skullgirls on keyboard. It's actually surprisingly comfortable. Some people like to use WASD for movement, while other people replace W with Spacebar for the up input. If you end up playing a fighting game on PC, I'd suggest trying both out. Motions aren't bad either. You have to get used to the feeling of rolling your inputs across the keys but it's not any harder than learning them on pad or stick.
Assuming your on a decent keyboard....I would assume its somewhere between pad and stick, cause .....its basically stick without the stick instead with pad arrows or wasd.

Never tried it.

Keyboard is completely fine, a Hitbox/Mixbox is a glorified keyboard anyways and people use those to play fighting games with great success.
