New to GG series, who should I main?

Title says it. What's a good GG strive character to main to get the basics right?

Everyone but zato, faust and maybe potemkin. There is nothing super crazy with most of the cast you could realistically pick anyone and be fine. Go for who looks cool. All characters except zato can be played with just the basics and you can get a grasp of the game.

But if you really want someome easy sol for aggression and specials and ky for a bit of range

Play the solo modes, see what character you enjoy the most and here you go.

This guy wants you to fail LOL. Don't play Chipp he dies in 2 hits and you will quit this game. Try Ky or Sol. Both very good all rounders with enough tools to help you all around understand the game. You CAN play whoever you want though but the two names I mentioned will give you a much easier starting point.

Sol is the main guy and pretty simple
Ky - The most boring shoto in shoto history
May - even easer than Sol, can catch offguard and kill you with a Pink Whale - "very funny"
Faust - if you are the Edgelord like me
Potemkin - roar SOCIETY and try to grab people until they dead
Chipp - is fun and easy but low hp can make you cry
Leo - UNGA BUNGA their asses
Zato - if you want a challenge, but he's easier now to understand
Millia - Same as Chipp now lol
Ram - if you are a Pervert
Ino - if you are Pissed Off Pervert
Anji - If you dont mind slow pacing - he can give you orgasm
Axl - can be hard if you dont like zoners
Giovanna - If you are Pervert and also dont wanna tryhard
Nagoriyuki - for Masochists only

Always choose what you want to play from the start even if it's a hard character, if you are motivated you will learn the game so try them all an pick your favourite

I think I will first go with Sol and Ky since they seem like Ryu and Ken of GG. The reason I was asking this is that I want to main a character that is tied with the game franchise and wont be possibly abandonednin future iterations.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. They might end up getting rid of both for lore reasons, who knows. I'd say play who you enjoy. Strive is a new game, both Sol and Ky have some new tools, and lost some old stuff they always had.

However if it makes you feel any better, all the characters from the original Guilty Gear cast are playable (except for Kliff & Baiken), and have always been playable in every mainline GG game.

Those would be Sol, Ky, May, Faust, Pot, Chipp, Zato, Millia, and Axl. They're all pretty much staples of the series.

I know this is biased but I actually would recommend Faust as an ideal "easy to learn, hard to master" character. His gameplan is very basic and straightfoward without being too overpowered. His lack of an extremely potent flow chart might help you develop a better game sense by focusing on the match and how you opponent plays as opposed to doing a fancy combo conversion or setplay.

in other words, I feel as though you will be heavily spoilt if you play the gorilla characters (sol, leo, anji, may, etc) because a lot of their tool kit is pretty privileged and ignorant which can easily make newer players complacent with the basic flowchart. That's my word of advice. Don't get too comfortable with the ignorant stuff and experiment.
