Skill is the offspring of Suffering and Time.
I lost my Promos alot too but instead of being salty over a level 1700 Nago running me over I was thankful for the best Training I ever had.
Levels aren't entirely meaningless though. You get pitiful xp for winning random games and having a 50% wr. You get a ton of xp by going on win streaks and beating celestial VIP players. Someone who is lvl 500+ has probably been winning against decent players or wnt on long winstreaks.
In celestial you have all the top pro players. And you also have random floor 10 scrubs challenging for celestial. The difference between 1000+ lvl players and a floor 10 guy is way bigger then a floor 1 guy vs a floor 10 guy. Especially because the game is designed so you can climb floors super fast, and thus anyone can be floor 10.
And yet when you challenge for celestial you can play against both. Not only that you can pick and choose which opponents you want. You can even get a friend to let you win. Celestial can thus be achieved relatively easy and does not neccessarily mean anything. I mean, when I challenge for celestial I can go up against a floor 10 Ky and go 2-0 super easy. Or I can play against a VIP lvl 500 Leo, go 2-2 and I'm out. Despite The 2 wins against Leo meaning much more and being way harder.
If you don't pick and choose your opponents it can become incredibly frustrating to win 5/6 yes. But just making it 4/6 already would make it way too easy and devalue the rank even more. It's just a convoluted system with no rhyme or reason which was entirely set up to make everyone be able to jump floors up and down easily. Resulting in floor 10 having the biggest discrepancies between player skill, because suddenly the critteria to advance becomes super tight.
Personally I would jsut scrap this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ system entirely and just do something like +R has. No ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lobbies. Just a interface that searches for your opponents. Elo based point system where you get +points for wins and -points for losses. After a certain rank you stop getting points for playing people x ranks below you. Now your rank is a much better indicator of your skill and top players have special ranks that are really hard to get. They kinda tried giving top players an extra flair with the auras around them but it's not the same.
In fact I just got a celestial promo while writing this wall of text. I won 4 games, one of them being against a lvl 1080 Anji, only to lose my last game against a 1600 Millia who was way better than me. And now none of the wins mean anything. Back to floor 10 where I will get dodged by people because I am lvl 230 and have the celestial icon displayed. Only to win 5 in a row to get the celestial promo again. And lose 2 sets to a way better player and it's back to floor 10.
This floor system is honestly so unbelievably bad. There was nothing wrong with a rank based system of +R. The only reason we have this ♥♥♥♥ is because they want bad players to drop floors quickly to protect them (together with other things like not showing your losses or the "you" arrow at start). And because they want players who are competitive to have easy jumps into floor 10, the "highest" normal rank. Thus they can feel good about their "high" rank, when in reality the floors are a very poor indicator of skill.
And also restrict Challengers from fighting VIPS
Also restrict VIPS from fighting RED VIPS
You get the idea
Its THAT easy
I mean, Im getting VIP simply abusing top-tiers and fighting chars I know how to counter
My friend on the other hand is WAY above my skill level but his main simply cannot withstand last couple of matches no matter how often he challenges heaven
Its really hillarious to hear him cry in Discord but also - I feel sorry for him, the guy deserves better and at least a Gold Poster
If your friend shares this entitlement of "deserving" VIP then that's probably why he is so frustrated. The VIP marker has no impact whatsoever (if not to limit your options of playing versus none VIP players) and I'm guessing that most people in these threads would end up loosing it every month in the coming months anyways. It might seem harsh but nobody "deserves" to reach the higher floors because if you truly did, you would be there already. That said, kudo's to him and those who at least don't win trade to get up. That would probably do more harm then good.
>look at this wall of salt
