Considering how new Strive is I doubt we even have an inkling of what the game's balance is like until we've given it a few more months, and even then. If I have a difficult time fighting May because of how I play, then if asked I'm going to say that she's strong. That's probably what all of this is right now.
The huge damage characters recive now compared to xrd makes may hits and pressure combo with dolphin more usable and because of that annoying. in xrd or previous games wasn't the case because the damage and pacing wasn't that faster and there was no wall break which may users tend to use a lot. that's why, you need to change their pace to confuse them.
As for May it's not the dolphin, it's the anchor that makes her annoying. I think by now people have actually gotten used to the dolphins and how you can prevent the spam by throwing some pre-emptive attacks and watch how she smashes her face into your foot (or whatever your using).
I haven't even met a dolphin spammer in a long time, May players themselves seem to have realized that people don't let them get away with it anymore. But I dunno, maybe it's still very prevalent in lower floors.
The Heavy Slash version has slower startup, but is plus on block. Learn the difference between them and remember she's minus after the fast Slash version and plus after the slow Heavy Slash version. Use 6P or another move if you react to the Heavy Slash version.
Its likely slightly higher then norm its prob doing 230ish+ on axel who has ~480 health. But yeah any dust, tension use, or wall is likely going to get you 180-300 dmg across the board (and effective hp ranges from 440-590).
Same reason the entire cast can "2 combo to death" off a full tension bar and wall breaks (only character I havent seen it on is faust and its coming).
Still this is alot more representative then the % or tod you combos you seen thrown around on low hp character with counter hits and or 50-100% risc.
im always defending crouching against that
while defending i try to stuff 2S and spam P, if its the fast dolphin you will keep defending and if its the slow one your P will stop that move, granted your oponent might see that on the first or two times you do that and changes strategy so dont take it as THE SOLUTION, is just what i use to stop the barrage of incomming dolphins, if you dont challenge she will never stops and if you show that you know how to stop it she will have to change or die from poke dmg, i would say that may has amazing buttons, she can change the strategy to neutral just fine and she will still be horrifying to play against, her JHS and JS are amazing buttons and her QCF HS is really good and easy to do on reaction so if you are seeing a may thats not trying to run - grab and RC you to death you might have one waiting for that juicy special near the wall
