Pretty sure I did. In that past I'd never buy anything censored, but I don't think it's avoidable anymore. I don't think games will ever be anything more than they are now, though it's certainly likely that they'll be less. As a medium gaming is too safe for my tastes, and with each year I expect less from it. Now books, those can step over lines or ignore them completely, but gaming exists to be consumed. Just another toy I happen to enjoy that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Ironically, I bought Strive because it's supposed to be easier, and I'm very bad at fighting games.

except... no. this is a bad response to the market. censorship is wildly unpopular. if anything... it's bowing down to external pressures by forces that aren't their audience.

games are so much more than a toy. they're an art. if they were a toy then there's no sense to censor it. if they're an art then there is also no sense to censor it.

sadly. increasing the cost of any good (even labor) will make people want to buy it less.

and there's scant to no evidence of censorship increasing sales. it's not so much that YookaLaylee didn't fail or lost some sales because of removing Jontron... it's that A Hat in Time DIDN'T tank.

ecconomics is complicated, and i'm with you that markets aren't rational. Teachers and police unions and having healthcare tied to employment are both examples of bad BS. the latter of which was because of some WW2 hold over. (wages were frozen so the only way to incentize people to work for you was to offer benefits. sadly this update has stayed a bit longer than what was useful and now we have leaches )

censorship is removal of something that is considered obscene, inconvenient. objectionable, or harmful.

it can be done by public or private entities of any size. self censorship is also censorship with extra mental gymnastics. De facto or de jure censorship is still censorship.
