Lmao , I am always blocking high/low because it looked like eddy hits low and every zato player does this string, so I thought this is a setup or something. Thanks for the answer.
Another thing that's not real is 2S cancelled into "Invite Hell" (the ground drill) that Zato's usually use when they're out of Eddie gauge and try to keep you locked down until he's back.
Everybody except for Nagoriyuki and Potemkin can jump in between 2S and Invite Hell and you can lab a big punish for that. He's not obligated to go through with that though, so you can't just auto jump after 2S unless the Zato player is a bot.
If you find a pattern where he likes to use the frog leap in neutral, you can destroy it with 6P.
Sol can punish the sword super with Vortex on reaction to the super flash unless Zato has another bar of tension to escape.
None of his supers have invincibility, so if you can challenge them you get a free counterhit.
Challenging him in the air is hard but necessary. Get a feel for when he's forced to land when flying and have 6P ready for that and for situations where he likes to axe you in the face directly.
Oppose has long startup and recovery. Run up and throw him or if you're Sol you can Vortex and red roman cancel on hit, because red roman cancel destroys Eddie always even on block.
All this doesn't mean Zato is weak or an auto win or anything, it's just a couple of knowledge checks you can use to make the Zato play a bit more honest.
He also has 6K for a grounded overhead, the one where his leg turns into a cleaver and he swipes downwards. You won't see many zato players using it, though, as ironically it's actually more reactable and leads to less reward on hit. It's still something to keep in mind, though, as it has no orange flash on startup.
the big thing to note is outside of the snakes (236 HS), Eddie has NO invincibility whatsoever and even with the snakes, Eddie can't absorb supers. It goes doubly so if you happen to tag Zato while an Eddie special is out. Zato happens to block an attack with Eddie out, Eddie goes away but his meter is refreshed instantly. Sword super revives Eddie, and the sword tracks your position, so be aware of he can still push a mixup should you happen to block it. You can also interrupt the sword super from actually hitting you, and Eddie has to refill his meter again.
There is a gap between all of Zato cancels into Eddie specials, they all have big startup windows, especially frog and drills. Pierce has a big gap inbetween pokes, and his command grab is slow too. Also Zato's fastest buttons are 6f. He has among the lowest health pools in the game, and combined with his slow buttons, he's free as soon as you knock him down and make him guess. Coward crouch (214K) is also slow but invincible once he's fully disappeared, but the longer he stays down, the more recovery he has.
If i could change one thing about Zato, this move should spend your Eddie bar once the spikes are out, and that's it
And he has also good air attacks that will win a lot of interactions.
The most scary part is that he will break the wall from anywhere on the screen so one random hit, and you are done, and since he doesn't need his tension for more dmg he can always use it to extend his pressure, or cover unsafe spots.
