how is this painfully long "communicating with server" on startup still a thing?
what exactly is happening here? how is a login taking so long? is something else being loaded?
after taking a break from the game and coming back, i'm surprised this hasn't changed.

To answer your question about "what's happening": ArcSys screwed up on the server side, by making EVERYONE being routed to their core Japanese servers FIRST, getting pinged 100+ times over WHILE it's happening, and then RE-pinged once the connection was already established for "integrity/stability" purposes, all while being heavily delayed due to distance. It's all a bunch of utter bollocks and modders already found a way to fix/circumvent this BS.

https://github.com/optix2000/totsugeki get this ASAP. Cuts average "communicating" from 2+ minutes to ~20 seconds tops during the first load/run, then to ~5 secs if going back to logo from the menu and then entering from there. Having a modern fast (500+ MB/s) SSD helps.

Just remember that, once you download and set it up, you should NOT use the default .exe/app shortcut of Strive Fighter to load the game anymore, but do it through the 🐬.

very thanks for this, now is more clear why this game has this huge loading time.

OP, it seems that I was too fast to judge, since I haven't tried to load the game during the day and only got to it right now. As of right now - the 🐬 does NOT work since the latest update broke it's functionality. Now we have to sit and wait until the dolphin itself gets updated.
The last update to it was whopping 10 days ago, so I can only hope they'd get to it ASAP.

Alright, everyone. It seems that it was somewhat fixed already, though not entirely. For now just make sure that your version of 🐬 is no older than 1.2.3, when you update the game.

OP, if you don't play online, just try switching Steam into offline mode and run the game then. Either you will have training mode-only functionality or the game won't run at all. Which will only prove that my assumption works (it can be both ASW and Valve, for all I care, by the way).

They're not using steam's online, but their own amazon solution. Presumably they did it like this so they could link all the versions with crossplay eventually, while also bypassing a lot of Sony's online stuff.

The marked post above explains the primary issue, but there's a lot more to it, like that the game requires you login to all the online features even if you have no intention of actually playing online, the mess that is the R-code system, the social features, and more.

People like to say 'just use this mod,' but the mod isn't a fix, or even a good bandaid, since all that does is cut the initial connecting to server stuff from a minute and thirty seconds to 40 seconds, which is still silly and unacceptable if all I'm booting up the game for is to play versus with a friend who's over.

you can still open the game first and then open the mod, it makes no difference, there is even a command that you can open totsugeki and not open GGS from it BUT i would ALWAYS recommend opening it as ADM

I was amazed they literally didn't do a damn thing to fix this when there is a mod that circumvents all the issues.

Truly incredible that this ever got past cert. And as someone who only ever plays single player games, being forced to wait 2+ minutes for some online connection check is completely absurd.

I've barely touched this game since buying it due to this bug. I feel for the dev team, to see all their hard work ruined by some idiotic decision making.

It's 100% on ArcSys, since it's THEIR Japanese server side (which is AWS garbage, BTW. They sold their a to Bezos) is what's doing this. They send EVERYONE from around the ENTIRE GLOBE to their Japanese server FIRST, while pinging 100+ times, then RE-ping every single last thing once the connection was established for "security" and "stability". It's absolutely inane BS, utterly insane bollocks, but it's them who's doing that, not Steam. And they don't care.
