Is there a time limit like in regular Persona games or nah?
I'm running out of SP (reached the first blue checkpoint thingy) so I wanna know if I can dip out of the first Jail before finishing it or not

Since you can exit out of Jails (P5S's Palace-analogue) at will without time progressing, no, it's not even remotely like P5.

You can hope out, fill up on items (you get fully healed on leaving too!) and then hop straight back into the dungeon.

The downside to that, at least for my tastes, is that you're forced to finish the dungeon in one "day", the story or even date doesn't progress until you do apparently (still in first dungeon).

Wow that's... kind of a bummer to be honest. The time pressure added a sense of urgency to the dungeons in P5 since being forced to quit them actually meant something. Oh well, guess I'll exit and re-enter for a free heal then :P

I don't think the time limit would have been a fun mechanic in this game at all. I think this game drains your resources much faster, especially on hard and how items, chests and named mobs respawns which makes it feel the whole game is designed to be more grindable.

Does anyone know why SP doesn't just regenerate automatically at checkpoints? If you can leave the dungeon to get a full recharge with no penalty, it would be nice if the game gave you the SP recharge at checkpoints without forcing you to go through several loading screens first.

Because they want a time sink

That would be cheating actually. It just follows the same mechanic as Safe Room in Persona 5.

They may not have thought about it. Or it may also be because exiting / re-entering also respawns enemies and they didn't want to add in a potentially confusing "refill SP but also respawn enemies" button, and wanted to keep the enemy respawning to have some limits.

Yeah, this is probably it. And the fact that sometimes they prevent you from leaving. Although I suppose that in those cases they could just block the restore function as well.
