Persona 5 Royal Censorship Discussion
It seems that the release of P5R on PC is now inevitable and in preparation for that, I've decided to start this thread to figure out how much of that game has been censored by Atlus' localization team. This should help those of us who haven't played Royal to decide if the game is worth our money or not.
I'm sure most of us already know that the scenes with the two gays characters hitting on Ryuji were censored, but I would like to find out if there are more "problematic" scenes that were altered. I've heard that the Valentine's Day scenes were censored as well, but don't know much details about that.
So I ask anyone who played both P5 and P5R, or P5R in both Japanese and English, and noticed any censorship, changes to dialogue to make it less "offensive", to please post your observations here.

It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The scenes with the two gay people are still in the game, just with some small altered dialogue. They also altered some lines from the valentines day dialogues. They toned them down a bit.

For the most part, those are it. They didn't affect my enjoyment of Royal at all.

Who cares? They are at best very minor changes in a 100 hour game. And if those changes make the game more welcoming to a larger audience than they are good changes.

man, they altered like 1 or 2 dialogue lines from scenes that are just joke scenes. they last like 2 minutes in a 120h + games.
I think you can endure that.

I played the vanilla and the royal and honestly the "censorship" is not bad at all, I mean they are way darker things going on anyway. They censored that because it was... a weird scene tbh.

I wouldn't even say they censored it really, it was still perfectly obvious what's going on

Yes you're right, they just changed the part were the gay people were trying to hit on ryuji IIRC. Now they want to make him a fashion model or something

I care about experiencing the game as original developers intended, not some sanitized version where everything offensive has been removed. The purpose of this thread is to find out how much exactly was altered so everyone can decide for themselves if the censorship is too much for them or not.

Thanks. Do you have more info about how the Valentine's Day scenes were censored/altered?

Honestly can't even remember the actual line, but it was VERY obvious what this scene was (initially) about.

IRT the Valentines Day event, they were toned down in both English and Japanese versions of the game because of how Royal's third semester plays out. They made Valentine's Day earlier in the characters' relationships so the events aren't as heated as they were before.

You get a longer arc with each date instead if you end up on the true ending path.

I see, that's definitely good to hear, thanks a lot.

Are you sure is coming to pc?
It's inevitable at this point but it could be years away knowing Atlus.
