I hope Denuvo is removed soon so things are nicer for everyone.
what does navi mean? navigation? are you talking about futaba not being called navi? isnt her codename already oracle? isnt that good enough? what's the point in changing an established codename every "western" person knows and is comfortable using? besides, how is that illegal? or do you mean "Legal" as in "Mental", saying it's insane how they dared change it?
the whole first and last name problem you speak of would not go well with how "western" countries operate in terms of using names. no "western" person would ever call you by your last name like its a normal thing or to be formal. people do not do this, if anything is "legal" its this.
changing "scramble" into "strikers" is psychotic? how is it that change a sign of severe mental illness? besides, do you honestly think "scramble" sounds right with the type of gameplay this game has? let's be real here, a "striker", as in to "strike" sounds much more appropriate due to you having to actively engage shadows in close quarter combat.
honestly it just sounds to me like youre a weeb who hates the "west" and anything "western". this localization does not, is not, and never was meant to cater to a minority of people who believe japanese culture in its entirety is superior to their own. well, whatever, its not like it really matters. its just a mod so go nuts, if its what makes you glad then fair enough, hopefully you can deal with the fan-made localization being different from the voice actors lines which they speak.
"Gramps" works, but I do prefer it when those names are maintained for a localization. I would prefer having translator notes explaining what all these things mean than have them be localized.
"Navi" is Futaba's real codename. I have never seen her as Oracle since I've never played a Persona 5 game with the english voices. So I always hear "Navi" and not "Oracle". I assume it is a legal issue because "Navi" is a Zelda character. I might be wrong, but I thought that's what it was. If they did changed it because they thought western audiences couldn't handle a character named "Navi" that would be psychotic and very disrespectful of them.
Many people seem to be against having name order maintained in art. I just don't understand this. I'm not arguing for us to do this for any legal issue, just for translations of media. If someone calls a character "Takamaki Ann" I want that to be maintained.
I do think the gameplay for P5S is more of a "scramble" than just "striking". But that's besides the point. I do not like a game's name being changed when being brought over. I can understand it if the game's original name conflicts with copyrights in another country, but I think changing an already english name to a different name so the game is more appealing to a western audience is wrong. Please do not get hung up on the meaning of "psychotic," I mean it in the sense that their thought process is incomprehensible. I don't see how "strikers" is a better or more financially effective name than "Scramble: the Phantom Strikers". But it's better than changing "Dancing Moon Night" to "Dancing in Moonlight". the decision to change the names of those games is utterly and indefensibly psychotic.
It's not the worst localization, there isn't any clear censorship or evil and bad faith changes. I just consider it outmoded in comparison to my standards. But this isn't a localization worth being emotionally attached to and defending.
