Are you on a keyboard? It's possible it works better on controller if you have one, since controller allows finer movements. I use controller and it was difficult to get the right position but not impossible. By the time I was into the game deeply it was easier since I was used to it. It's really the same mechanic as taming but the taming seems easier because you're not standing on a branch while trying to get the right position. You need the right distance and angle. I think a big part of the problem at first for me was getting too close.
Thank you, I might try the controller. I think I also found the issue, the game shows the prompt again on the same day, and that seems to be when I can't interact with the mount (again). If the prompt comes up on a brand new day, with no interaction before, it works out fine, but if the prompt comes on the same day I've already pet and feed, it won't work. Probably a bug if we're not meant to do it twice on the same day. But still, thank you for your reply, and I think I'll try the controller at one point anyway, wanna see if the game plays nicer with that instead of keyboard/mouse.
