What does backpack exactly do? or does it even appear on inventory when you make it?

I made myself a satchel which gives me 6 additional inventory slots when equipped. After that, I made a backpack but I didn't see it on my inventory when it completed. I thought I may have dropped it, but that wasn't the case. It neither increased the stack number of my items (default 30). So what is it then? Is this "backpack" a passive upgrade? Is this a bug or a feature? There is no explanation...

The backpack triples your carrying capacity (in terms of the number inventory slots), and to gain this bonus, you have to equip it in the same inventory slot where you would wear a satchel. By contrast, a satchel only doubles your inventory.

Unfortunately, you can't wear a satchel and a backpack at the same time, or at least not in the current build of the game.

This is a bug. When your inventory is full, an item in the crafting queue will not appear on completion but you should get the resources back. A backpack is like a satchel, just bigger.

I equipped satchel over the backpack. I got 24 slots, but after saving and restarting the game, those last 6 slots disappear along with everything in those 6 slots. So, satchel seems completely worthless or very glitchy. I think I'll still try the backpack + satchel, but just remember to keep low value items in those slots, and empty the slots when saving/quitting the game.
I will need to verify but I'm convinced that I am losing random items, regardless of location in the backpack+satchel. It may be very high risk to be losing full stacks of metal to an annoying glitch. It may be best to always avoid the satchel.

When you equipped a satchel over your backpack, a bug occurred and one extra line got added to your inventory for a total of 24 slots and 4 lines. This should not happen, it's a known bug and we'll fix it soon. Thank you for sharing your experience

Are there any plans to further increase the inventory space? That would be really nice.
