Things i wish i knew
This game does a poor job at explaining things. and there are a lot of things i wish i knew starting out, that i found out through accident or hard knocks.

For example,

You cant get your blood and 02 higher than your food bar.
( i wondered why i couldn't get above 4 hp for the longest time)

If food hits 0 you die.

Armor shards / Armor is a thing, that i cant find a display for on the hud, but it definitely seems like it does something to increase my survivability.

Also, armor of faith seems to greatly increases survivability, but again, im not sure how.

Swinging forgiver consumes 02.

Keycards don't carry over between descents. (E2M2)

if you run an individual reload weapon out of ammo, like the magnum or shotgun, the reload for the first shell takes extra time.

The hammers(?) that the battle sisters throw can block bullets.

you can apparently cook a grenade off in your hands. (i have died to this)

You can kick things away, but not very far, and the tutorial never covers this.

The 3 choices of routes to take at the beginning, faith, devotion, or zealot, is apparently difficulty selection.

The Magnums Alt-Fire is a poor mans grenade launcher.

Some pieces of cover, the shorter square columns with a different pattern, are destructible.

Id appreciate it if anyone else has any advice or things they wish they knew or can clarify any of my points, it would be appreciated.

Your armor value is the white bar to the right of your health. You wont take any health damage as long as you have armor. As you progress you will unlock bigger armors to buy.

Here's some things I've learned through beating the game a couple times (even the hardest difficulty)

1. The auto rifle does the exact same damage as the meta-magnum, making the magnum useless in comparison, as rifle ammo is plentiful in stages and from enemies, whereas magnum ammo is scarce and usually needs to be bought. The rifle also reloads all at once, making it objectively better in every way.

2. The Whalegun can shoot through anything... Even walls.... Including the barrier above the 2nd boss... Also it oneshots turrets and stationary gunners.

3. The energy beam from the auto-rifle melts through armored enemies.

4. Selling grenades is the best option, as 2 sells for 150 gold, and the grenades aren't that useful compared to your arsenal. Same with O2 tanks, as there's very little reason you'll need to to use them. Also sell your magnum ammo.

5. You stun enemies when shooting them, keeping them from firing.

6. You can shoot projectiles out of the air.

7. The red dot upgrade for the auto rifle isn't just visual. It increases the accuracy, range, and stability of your gun.

8. The only ammo you should ever buy is whalegun ammo, and zeus cannon ammo. Otherwise spend your money on armor, upgrades, and bloodbags. The rest of the ammo is so plentiful that there's no need to buy it. It's too expensive for what you actually get.

9. SMG has a similar time to kill as the autorifle, but each bullet does less damage.

10. The chaingun has the highest damage output of the automatic weapons.

11. There is a secret level in each act that will give you a decent upgrade. You will find alternative entrances in certain levels that will take you to said secret levels. There is only one per act.

12. Zealot difficulty is hard, don't do it :MCCLEGENDARY:

Also, if you sprint jump you keep momentum but dont use as much energy.

The food meter has a white bar on the side of it similar to the armor bar. It goes up as you grab those food bonus apples. Any idea what it does?

https://ci-en.dlsite.com/creator/3655/article/178101 found a HUD explanation " Excess apple gauge (When the stomach is full, the gauge accumulates to collect 8 apples and food increases by 1)".

the tutorial didn't even mention the food bar - this answers a lot. It also insdtantly jumps up there so I think health is % based?

i've been going out of my way to avoid picking up the apples unless my food bar is maxed, filling the white bar several times but my food bar is still the default 24
Another tip, likely a bug to be patched:
Any weapon upgrade you buy from Tycho is permanent, even if you switch guns (if you have Jamming active) or restart the level.
This means you can buy all the upgrades in the Hub, select "Restart Mission / Level", and keep those upgrades AND your gold. Helps lots at the beginning of your first playthrough.

I don't mind any of these being something 'you find out, maybe accidentally'. They were either whatever who cares, or actually cool to find out. Also, a lot of things, like your food reaching 0 killing you... pretty self explanatory, nobody needs to be told what happens if your food reaches 0 in a game. Maybe you might assume that it won't be an instant death of something? but like, the fact that your HP is limited to food is a clear indicator that you'll die cuz 0 food = 0 hp = death. Or -1 to be exact, I remember being 0 HP and still alive

Another tip, you can kick vending machines to get the display item once them it will say "out of order"

I found a couple things too, but most of them have already been said. Buying armor twice gets you 'you already have one of those' but buying a gun twice gets you 'you already have one of those!', this was so amazing to me that I tried buying a second flechete smg thing. You can duel weild them. It's awesome

oh yeah, and while you can find secret levels, there are secret levels inside secret levels. the easiest one is castle wolfstone, the wolfenstein themed level
