FAQ - Things you might want to know when playing The Citadel
So I just found myself replaying the first episode (twice) because I didn't understand how some aspects of the game work and I was losing gold without knowing where it went. Seeing as many of the systems in the game are not explained very clearly, I figured we could collect some useful hints for new players here.

Since figuring out how the game works might be considered to be a core part of The Citadel, let's use spoiler tags for explanations.

Here are some of the (very basic) things I can think of right now:

- What do red bookcases do? Walk up to these and press the "use" key to get tutorial messages.

- What are these small spinning collectible blocks? This is the game's currency (silver block = 1 gold, gold block = 10 gold) which you can exchange for items, ammo and weapon upgrades.

- How do I replenish health, oxygen or food? All of these resources can be replenished using items from your inventory (after picking them up, use "y", "x" and "c" keys respectively). You can also replenish health directly via health pickups and oxygen seems to fill itself under certain circumstances (in interior sections, perhaps? I'm not 100 % sure). Also keep in mind that replenishing your food resource seems to simultaneously increase your health.

- Why can't I heal fully? It seems your health and oxygen are limited to your food stat (the green one), so if you increase your health over that limit, it will quickly decrease again.

- What are the machine-like coloured wall textures with numbers on them? These are dispensers for health, oxygen or food resources. I'm pretty sure using them costs gold.

- How do I reload certain weapons? Some guns require you to reload each bullet / shell individually, so hammer the "reload" key.

- Why can't I hit enemies at a distance? The game has a bullet drop system which means any projectile you fire will drop downwards after travelling for a certain distance. Aim higher!

- Why can't I use secondary fire mode? Secondary fire requires secondary ammo. Early on in the game, you will get weapons with secondary fire modes before you get the secondary ammo, so it might seem like secondary fire doesn't work, but it does.

it's inspired by a Sharp X68000 game called relics which had the same cyan artstyle.

The Alt Reload on guns is faster, but drops the mag every time, meaning any ammo in it is wasted. But it can cut seconds off of some reloads. Not all guns have the Alt reload available though.
Double tapping your regular reload keybind will do the same thing as well.

oxygen replenishes over time. you can use the o2 tanks to replenish several points instantly. running and kicking use oxygen.

I think the O2 bit was pretty obvious if you look at your screen while playing.

yeah... maybe OP was only looking at his gauges while indoors :P

I was talking about you, not the OP. It's pretty obvious what an O2 tank pickup will do to your O2 meter. And just watching the screen as you run/jump/kick makes it clear that it lowers your O2.

OP said:

so i was clarifying
