Is Empyreal playable on Steam Deck?
The game is playable on the Steam Deck, but not officially verified. However, we are working on this and will share updates when we can!

Is Empyreal playable offline?
Yes, however, some of the features may not work.

The official Silent Games Discord has channels to leave feedback and bug reports, where members of the team and fellow players can discuss the game together.

Is Empyreal single-player or multiplayer?
Empyreal is a single-player game. It plays like a single-player game, but we do have a few asynchronous cooperative multiplayer elements that will allow you to feel the presence of other players in the world as you play through it.

Is Empyreal an indie game?
We are an independent Studio, and the team has always been very small. There are currently 12 of us at Silent Games.

What languages does Empyreal support?
The Game will launch with English Voice Acting and text in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean. More languages may be added post-launch if there is a demand for them!

Gameplay

What is Empyreal?
Empyreal is a single-player action RPG from 12-person independent UK development studio Silent Games, and like many RPGs it contains a lot of mysterious narrative and mechanical elements. In a far-flung corner of the galaxy, an Expedition arrives on a hitherto unexplored planet to find a colossal Monolith built by a lost civilisation.

Is Empyreal a Soulslike?
No.

What weapons can you use in Empyreal?
There are three weapon archetypes that have very distinct playstyles: the Cannon, the Mace & Shield, and the Glaive. You can switch weapons in the Hub area to experiment with different builds; you aren't locked into a weapon when you select a Background. In addition to Weapons, however, there are approximately 50 Unique Abilities in Empyreal that you can equip alongside your chosen Weapon.

Is there a new game plus (NG+?)
Yes, there is an extensive NG+. NG+ unlocks brand new features, and since each character's questline has multiple endings, you can experience the other endings by playing NG+.

Are the controls remappable?
On controller, you can choose from various controller layouts in the options menu. You can also pick a different configuration per weapon, so you can mix and match between layouts. On mouse and keyboard, you can customise any key.

What is a Cartogram?
These are loot items that act as levels in Empyreal. Level layouts stay the same, with each Quadrant having unique locations which are named in the Cartogram. However, the enemy types, final boss, and loot (among other factors) will be randomised. Randomised Cartograms can be traded at the Trading Post (unlocked after visiting all four quadrants at least once). Cartograms are usually single-use, so after you’ve played through one, you can sell it on the Trading Post for other Players to try. Story-essential Cartograms aren’t randomised and remain in your inventory until you successfully complete them.

What are the asynchronous features within the game?
The Mailbox, Trading, Reviving, and Into the Aether offer you a chance to help and be helped by other players, even when it feels like you are exploring the Monolith all by yourself.

Story & Characters

Does Empyreal have a story?
The narrative is a hugely significant part of our game! In addition to the main story, the game features a cast of characters who each have their own personal questlines (which all have multiple endings).

Is there a fixed protagonist?
No, there is character customisation so you can play as a male or female with many more customisation options beyond that. However the Player Character does have a significant role to play in the Story, the exact details of that are revealed only gradually.

Are the characters in the game voiced or text-only?
All the non-playable characters in-game are fully voiced. The main player character is not voiced in dialogue, but does have combat lines.
