The Original Dark Souls?

does anyone remember a game (if you were a kid in the 80's/90's) with a more frightening difficulty than this?

I'll tell you more, I had this game on my Nintendo when i was 7 years old and after playing it for weeks i could not complete it. In rage i through the cartridge against the wall and got grounded for weeks cause this ♥♥♥♥ wasnt cheap back then.

Indeed, it is the original Dark Souls...before you can throw the controller against the wall...

Or how if you accidentally picked up the torch on the stage when you first encounter ogres and you cannot progress because the weapon arc prevents you from ... forcing you to start over. It was rough.

Played this on a C64 as well, the brown one with the floppy brick, on a black and white portable TV. I sucked at it :D.

I had it on megadrive, and yes this game is hardcore.

Even weirder is that Dark Souls wasn't even "super hard" than contemporary games to it. It just build up this infamy out of nowhere (youtubers?)

I guess people must be referring to console AAA games exclusively when saying it's the hardest game.

Dark Souls isn't that hard, but it's a very well designed game. You've got to remember that Dark Souls came out during the Wii/360/PS3 era where games were being made easy in order to appeal to a mass audience. It's the generation where games really started to become casualized, and most games could be beaten without much thought. Granted that still hold true today for most games, but Dark Souls stood out for being one of the few new game series of that era that couldn't be beaten by simply bumrushing everything and anything.
