Issues running the game? Try this.....
Yet again we have a big studio releasing a game on Steam that appears to not work on some PCs and on Valve's Steam deck even though it's perfectly capable on these lighter performance systems. Here's what to try to get around it and play some sweet updated retro goodness.

You'll need a graphics card setup that is DirextX11 compatible for this. This edit was tested on Win 10 and Win 11. Haven't tried it on my SteamDeck yet.

If you launch your game and your experience sucks because:
* the cut scenes won't play properly
* your framerate really sucks (sub 10fps)
* the game runs in a tiny portion of your screen
Then try the following simple edit:

1) Go to your steam library and select Ghosts n Goblins resurrection. Don't click the play button yet.
2) Click on the COG symbol to the far right (the MANAGE button) and select "Browse local files"
3) You will be taken to the file path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Makaimura_GG_RE" if on Windows. Copy the file, config.ini and rename the copy to "backup_of_configini" (just in case we screw this up :) )
4) Open the original config.ini file with notepad or your text editor of choice
5) Change the line "TargetPlatform=DirectX12" to say "TargetPlatform=DirectX11"
6) Change the Refresh rate from "1" to "0"
7) Save the file
8) Start your Ghosts N Goblins Resurrection game. Your Game should now default to full screen and the framerate should be a much more playable 60fps

If you make the change and your game simply doesn't run, go back to the COG button, browse back to your config.ini file and delete the modified file. Rename "backup_of_configini" to "config.ini" and restart the game. It'll go back to running like trash, but now you'll be back to where you started and can try again or try something else.

I hope this helps some of you. When I booted this game for the first time I was very disappointed to see it's terrible performance and glad when this simple edit brought it to full resolution and speed for me.

Seems like everyone needs slightly different settings depending upon the circumstances. I use Proton on Steam for Linux, so I expected that since it's listed as Steam Deck compatible that there would be no issues, but that wasn't the case. The game has issues launching with full-screen 1080p but can be changed to full-screen once it's up.

I have these settings and locked my config.ini to make it read only. This gives me 1080p@60 in window mode on startup, every time. That way I just need to put it into full-screen window once it's running and the game won't overwrite the settings and make it difficult to launch next time I play.
