Any type of arcade mode or...
.... online leaderboards? The recently released Huntdown has an additional arcade mode. Just curious if there is anything similar here.

Guess not.

There isn't, at least not on Switch. It probably wouldn't have worked considering this game was never meant for someone to get through on a limited number of chances. The gameplay flow is far more in line with something like Super Meat Boy, where you will die in double (or sometimes triple) digit amounts on just one particular segment before finally moving on and doing the same thing for that segment until you eventually beat it.

I don't think it's really comparable with Super Meat Boy but the massive amount of checkpoints may evoke that feeling (unless you play on legendary)

GnG res sounds comparible to Cyber Shadow. Die hundreds of times. Unlimited lives. Spawn die spawn die rinse and repeat. Odd game design choice for an arcade style game. GnG res would of been better off as an hour or two long arcade game with limited lives and continues. Castle Castilla for example did things right. Continue too many times and you get the bad ending. Just my opinion though.

The thing is the series was always like this ghost n goblins was one of the rare arcade ports that allowed you to continue infinitely. On the other side, the game is way harder than games with limited life systems usually (also these things are pretty unpopular nowdays unfortunelately)
However this game feels more like Cyber Shadows when you play it on the easier difficulties, on legendary you have only the blue checkpoint flags, this means the stretches between each segment are faaaaar longer than in something like cyber shadow this makes it tense enough.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I will pick it up eventually I'm sure.
