Curious too, because the store page says "every death is a lesson learnt" but the souls-like tag is not present.

I get the impression that it's going to be a single difficulty with a series of temporary bonuses that last until death. Watching someone play the demo it looks like there's a couple 'currencies'. 1. Bone dust - this just heals you similar to how you heal in Hollow Knight. 2. Strife - basically you earn strife through killing mobs and eventually gain a 'strife level' where you pick between a few different bonuses that lasts until death. There's an occasional special weapon pickup to choose from too, also lost upon death.

Nah, the difficulty is more like Blasphemous than any souls like game. At least that´s what I experienced playing the demo.

Having played both Blasphemous and the Souls series, I don't see the relation at all.

The devs said it's inspired by soulsborne and the game is indeed pretty difficult by intent. The bosses are supposed to be pretty hard.

Primarily, the gameplay loop expects you to die. When you die, you get a debuff called Moon Hunger that ironically makes the enemies stronger until you perform a rite to remove it at one of the bonefire places (the mirror).

So yeah, I'd call it a soulsborne game with that kind of difficulty. It's pretty great so far.

Going to try it on gamepass, I just find 2D souls like games harder than 3D oddly enough.

the games difficulty is all over the place. it start pretty hard but with upgrades you'll get a lot tougher.

The combat is not soulslike, in the sense you aren't limited by a stamina meter. it does have other soulslike elements like lost currency on death, respawning enemies after death, can only respawn at checkpoints, etc.

So due to the design sensibilities of the combat, there's just cheap stuff to boost "difficulty" instead - spikes on ground, spikes on wall, inconsistent parry windows, that stupid red moon mechanic, etc. - combined w/ unforgiving souslike elements listed above is ehhhh... Honestly, the parry windows and red moon are enough for me to call this harder than any FS game, b/c it's just more cheap.

100% agree, it's not hard it's cheap, you can mash like crazy due to the lack of stamina.

The parry window is hard to deal with when multiple enemies rush you at once.

Red Moon is a dumb gimmick that will make you waste tons of a valuable resource that at least at the start is hard to get.

Full of bad ideas that make the game more annoying than fun.

Also every single checkpoint you have an easy but annoying battle with your double to get your weapon back.... WTF is this stupid gimmick about?

The game is a 5/10, the devs were so excited to make the game needlessly annoying that they completely forgot that games are meant to be FUN.

Hahah already a lot of crybabies blaming the game, rage quitting and such.

It's hard, it's really hard, even more than any souls game you've ever played. Maybe difficulty should be nerfed a little bit, Its way too much, unless you're korean.

ehhhh I dunno if it's that hard. I was smashing my head against the first 2 bosses for a little while... but I just gave up trying to parry and learned to dash through everything.

i beat it at xbox game pass. its not overly difficult unless you run out of consumables and have to fight in the red moon.


for the most part i just attacked and face tanked most enemies since you got so strong healing, and its so easy to replentish. the last area is a major difficulty spike, but other than that its just a harder than average game like hollow knight or blasphemous,
