RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Cant connect epic account after selecting "play offline" at the title screen?
I started the game up but didnt have an epic account so I selected play offline. I went in just to test if I could join my friend regardless. I got a popup saying "Epic Online Services account required for play online. You can link your platform account with an Epic Online Services account in the settings."

So, I went to epic, made an account, and linked my steam account. I relaunched dragonwilds and got the same message. I disconnected my steam account from epic and reconnected it, same issue.

I thought "Oh, since i selected play offline at the title screen it must be some kind of bug not letting me connect my Epic Games account now. I'll do a full uninstall and reinstall."

Same error after a full uninstall and reinstall, I didn't get the popup on the title screen this time and when I try to play anyway other than solo I get that popup from before saying "Epic Online Services account required for play online. You can link your platform account with an Epic Online Services account in the settings."

Am I doing something wrong or an I screwed because i selected "play offline" at the title screen when I started the game?

You do NOT need an Epic Games Account at all, and people assume this is what you need to do. Quite a few people go into funny rants about Epic Games Store, which is another topic entirely.

What you DIDN'T do was accept the creation of an Epic Online Servers prompt when you launched the game. No EOS, no playing online. Quite a few games use Epic's servers for online/crossplay access because of the game engine. It's cheaper than game devs making their own. Something like that, anyway.

You need to go into Settings -> Legal and enable EOS.

Same issue.

@Tachyon we understand that you don't need but after that sword rattling? your rant doesn't change the fact that right now it doesn't seem like you can change your mind - for those who might want to play with others.

"You need to go into settings" and that isn't working.

Thanks for the rant... that wasn't needed.

The link isn't working.
