Epic Account Required
Are we ever going to get to a point where its just financially disadvantageous to engage with this corporate nonsense? Why would/should a game made by or under Jagex require an Epic account?

I didnt want it when the issue was PSN. I dont want it now. If the only reason is that I want to use whatever username I want and to be able to change it at any time, then that is enough. I dont have to pay Valve to change my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ username and I can make it whatever I want at any time.

You only need an Epic account to play online, but you can play offline without one entirely.

So, for context, this means any kind of online? I was under the impression the game was entirely session based. If I want to play with other people even if its just on Steam, I have to make an Epic account?

Are there any LAN options?

Thanks for at least letting me know. I do intend to play with a preformed group of people, but I dont like pissing around with this 3rd party account stuff. Its annoying and they nickel and dime you for crap like username changes all the time when its none of their business.

And for the record, I dont blame the devs. The only language the people above them seem to speak is money, and I think it should be made a point to them to understand that making obnoxious deals for requirements to inflate user counts is just going to hurt sales.

Its the only logical conclusion I can come to about why its necessary to enforce something so asinine for a survival game that is meant to be played with 4 people.

This is what I'm wondering about too. The only person I plan on playing it with is also on steam so why would we need to connect to epic?

Why would you need to wonder about any of this? Why not: Zero concessions, don't buy the game.

You should all know by now why Epic is involved and if you're willingly going to purchase this garbage knowing that they have a hand in it and to what ends then why wonder? Just stop thinking and bend over instead :D

Epic Account is not required. Just steam connects to the Epic services. Confirmed, You don't need an Epic Account on steam.

P.S. You can play offline Solo without connecting to the Epic Online Services.

Thanks for this. I was ready to bin this game off my wishlist, but if I don't need Epic I might consider it. If I need it to play with friends though...I'm not having it.

Comon people. Just read the EULA:

3. EPIC ACCOUNT REQUIREMENT
3.1 RuneScape: Dragonwilds requires an Epic Games Account in order to play online.

3.2 If your Steam Account already has a linked Epic Games Account, no further action is required. If you do not already have an Epic Games Account, we can create one for you. You consent by your agreement to these terms for us to create an Epic Games Account for you and to link it to your Steam Account.

3.3 You do not require an Epic Games Account to play RuneScape: Dragonwilds offline.

Its because my argument is based in reason. I dont like installing 3rd party launchers, and I also enjoy that Steam lets me use whatever name I want. It doesnt have to be unique, and it can be generally as long as I want, and I can change it any time.

Im not a loyalist. Steam has the best record on supporting its' users as a platform in terms of refunds and freedom. I simply do not care if people want to construe this as petty, its not an MMO, I should be able to do whatever the hell I want.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a real shame, but there are other good games out there I'd rather spend my money on then.
Off the wishlist.

You do not have as much anonymity as you think online. Besides all the info of yours that's been sold dozens of times by now. All you have to do is look up that email you are using and if you know how you can see any public info linked to it as well. Everything from schools, to public housing, to any other plethora of public info websites. So can we Stop now?

Confirmed. Albeit I wish it had nothing to do with Epic at all.

That's why I said, zero concessions which is where anyone looking to get rid of this crap should start. All any of you needed to do was look to the EULA and you'd have your answers without having to wonder, hell you just need to know Epic has a hand in it and you should know not to go near it.

To answer your original question no, no you're not going to get to a point where this becomes financially detrimental, why? Not only are you struggling to wrangle an egregious amount of completely braindead consumers, you are also banking on the fact that multi-national investment firms playing with several countries GDP combined suddenly go under.
