Please find the following quotes regarding Epic and Crossplay:

Good news! You can play solo, offline with no need to interact with any kind of Epic services. If you do choose to play online, it's a one-button, integrated link to jump straight onto Epic's online services. No launchers, no logins, just click and go.

I stumbled across this:

"Mod Doom clarifies the requirement is because its for the network framework that natively works within UE5 and allows for crossplay in the future but the game will launch and run entirely on steam."

"Hi there - the infrastructure we're using for online play is Epic Online Services. That's the framework that natively works with Unreal Engine 5 and allows us to lay the foundations for cross-platform play in the future. It'll launch and run entirely within Steam, no need to launch anything other than Steam - and, of course, the game!"

Based on all that, I would suggest that the initial release for early access is going to be on Steam, and with console development/release slated for a later date, maybe even after DragonWilds is out of early access.

At the moment, the developers are focusing on optimisation and player experience, please see below about Dragonwilds potential coming to Steamdeck in the future:

Dragonwilds would be very successful with a console release accompanied with Crossplay. I think it's going to be successful regardless, but not incorporating Crossplay would most certainly be a missed opportunity.
