RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Feedback | Spoilers Ahead
I played through as a solo ranger on my first play through, and I do realize that the range skill isn't currently available. The only thing I have yet to do is kill "Not-Elvarg".

Locations:

Every area looks great graphically, but some are far more frustrating than others.
Starting out in the Temple Woods feels great! "Wow Runescape stuff this is great!"

But as you progress through the world it feels as if the Runescape side of it slowly disappears. Attempting to show off new lore can be cool, but if you don't retain some of the IPs current identity then it feels lost.

The two most frustrating areas that I dealt with are the Stormtouched Highlands, and the Fractured Plains.

The lightning strikes in the Stormtouched Highlands are cool to see, but annoying. It's just another way to get stun locked in with wolves or garou.

Fractured Plains - Wolves, just a million wolves as far as the eye can see. While not an issue in late game, that place is a nightmare early on.

Vaults are really cool, I enjoyed those quite a bit.

I feel like the world as a whole is really small, I know more regions have yet to be added but once you've explored the area then that's kind of it.

Monsters:

Not counting animals, there are roughly 6-7? monster types with different variations which makes the world feel the same.

I'm absolutely sick of wolves, two or more means that you're hoping they don't stagger attacks into a stun lock. On top of that, attempting to jump away with the utility spell just for it to be interrupted feels terrible.

Also, everything in this game will out run you. You are either attempting to sprint away or rolling out of an attack but once your stamina is drained you're pretty much dead in the water.

The homing projectiles aren't fun, specifically from Druids. Fighting multiple enemies is bad enough but with a homing Druid shot from a distance feels brutal. Archers are insanely accurate no matter what movement you are trying to pull off, but are bearable for the most part.

The Abyssal Demon should not even be in the Whispering Swamp for early cheese, there's already one in the Bloodblight Swamp which is a little later in.

The aggro range sometimes feels 10 feet away and sometimes they just chase you to the end of the earth.

Being hunted/War Band - When this pops up I feel it just interrupts game play entirely, it's not fun and nothing is gained. Now having classic Runescape random events would be silly, some positive, some negative, and it plays to the player base.

Equipment:

The progression feels weird and makes very little sense in the terms of Runescape. Masterwork weapons should be the last items we get, not to be surpassed by a simple weapon we can create at home.

Runes feel.. useless? One essence equals 10 runes without any other requirement feels like way too much. Ending up with thousands upon thousands of runes when the utility skills only require the bare minimum is wild. For combat runes make sense.

Having equipment slots for weapons would be great. Playing as a melee can be annoying since you need to save two hotbar spots for your weapon and shield, while remembering to equip your shield when attacked.

Skills:

Having Runescape skills in a game like this is cool, but I just stopped paying attention after level 15-20 in each. Clearly the devs will be adding much more, I hope, but I really didn't feel much satisfaction with them overall.

Along with not paying attention to skills I also completely ignore the xp potions found around the world. Everything supplies such a steady flow of xp that you don't really need them.

Combat:

Feels clunky, although I do enjoy shooting things from very far away. I really dislike the short bow back step movement when not using ADS and the long bow kick is even worse.

The difference between short/long bows is noticeable but I found short bows to be far better with how many more times you can fire with the current stamina drain.

Sneaking, does this do anything?

Misc:

Tons of food types with no buff types, and food doesn't restore health in any capacity. Sure you can make health potions but food restoring health is a staple Runescape mechanic.

Hunger and thirst feel pointless besides just staying alive. Food and drink buffs for more health and stamina would be great.

Speaking of buffs, you can only have one at a time? Wild.

Not-Elvarg flying by every now and then while shooting stuff is pretty cool.

Cool down on utility spells is silly, its just another interruption in the game, sometimes making you stand there and wait because you don't want to leave the resources you just came across.

Stories/Quests are cool, its nice to see familiar faces and I hope to see more.

Final thoughts:

I absolutely love this game, but the more I play it the more cracks I find.
I am no stranger to early access, and I get it, we'll be getting updates and such but we have a lot of work to do.

My usual "quit for the night" points almost always end up happening after being chased by 6 monsters across the world and then dying.

+1 can sign nearly everthing. Enjoy the game too. Hope they "very soon" polish the game (combat, balanmce) and give us more content (region, skills and so on).

FYI, you absolutely can have multiple buffs at a time. One food, one drink, and one potion (ex. Shock resist pizza, attack stamina reduction drink, and attack potion). I agree, more options and buffs are needed, but it just released so I'm sure they're planning on it or hearing from player feedback. There are currently several ingredients already harvestable that do not have any use yet.
