just leave the world and load back in ones you go back the game does not have pause no since of co op system in mind like all survival games dont allow to pause so best way is just to leave the server so its paused that way and load back in when your ready
It's not the devs fault that you didn't even check that it was a pause to begin with lol. There isn't a pause button.
NB4 someone says "There should be, it's basic"
I agree and disagree. I think there should be a pause in solo mode for convenience.
But does it need it? no. Not all games have a pause button. Palworld's a good example of a good game with no pause.
This isn't minecraft.

Pause is going to the login screen.

This is a REALLY stupid take...not every road needs a stop sign or traffic light at an intersection BUT YOU BEST BELIEVE EVERYONE EXPECTS YOU TO NOT RUN THROUGH IT AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT; YOU'RE EXPECTING TO LOOK BOTH WAYS.

Common sense is common because it's TYPICAL/EXPECTED...don't call it a PAUSE menu if you're not going to PAUSE on it. Why even bother fading the screen at that point? Why not open a short menu with the screen still fully visible so you're more than aware that it's a GAMEPLAY menu and not a PAUSE menu?

"not all games need" BUT THIS IS ONE OF THEM!

[EDIT]
For SAKE it says "RESUME" as the top of the menu.
Start > Pause >< Resume > Pause > Quit/End.

Yes, tell them they should die by choking on rocks, insult them, ridicule them, do whatever it takes to make yourself feel better at their expense because that is always a productive means of getting something done. They aren't people worth being treated like a normal human-being. Chastise them for not having an unnecessary quality of life feature in an early access game. They should drop all development of content and bug fixes to address your most pressing issue of not being able to put 2 and 2 together and realize OH LOOK, the trees are still moving and my character is still doing the idle animation so MAYBE, just MAYBE, the game isn't paused and i should just spend 2 flipping seconds to leave my world when I go AFK in case enemies attack. Jesus christ people like you make me sick. Blaming others for your own incompetence. Grow up.

So first of all, pressing Esc doesn't even call it any kind of menu, let alone a Pause Menu. It's just a menu. So you're already wrong there.
Second you're bangin on about common sense, but the menu is transparent and the moment you press Esc you can still clearly see the game in the background still moving so if you wanna talk about common sense, how about using your eyes first before walking away from your game.
Third, resume just means to continue. It does not innately mean "unpause". I can stop playing a game, and it still be going on in the background of my PC, and "resume" playing it when I decide I want to. Resuming just means to continue doing something. Just because you stop, doesn't mean the game does.
But since you wanna use the traffic light analogy, do you know why traffic lights and stop signs do get put up in the first place? Because of idiots who don't use common sense or their eyes. So do you need a screen that says "this is not paused" to tell you that the clearly moving background isn't paused even in the escape menu? I sure hope not.

Not all games need a pause button "sweetheart". While I have absolutely no clue why you have an interest in what's up my butt (or lack thereof), I'm gonna help you understand:
- V Rising
- Palworld
- Craftopia
- Starbound
- Barotrauma (even in singleplayer mode)
- Baldur's Gate 3 (Also even in singleplayer mode)

These are just a very small sample of games that don't have a pause button, but are extremely popular and well made. Not a single person complains there there isn't a pause feature, at least not openly that I've seen in Steam or their respective discords.
Do you know why? Because it isn't necessary .
It's understood that if you can't play the game, then you should just back out into the title menu or close it. Pause can be a nice convenience, but there's never a Need for it. So no. You're absolutely wrong, not all games should have a pause menu, not does it need to state that it does or doesn't have one. If you feel that a pause menu is a make or break deal for a game then you have your priorities well out of order of what makes a half-decent game, let alone a good or great one.
OP, you aren't wrong, but man, you could have phrased it a bit more nicely.
It's not like they killed your dog and the game is in Early access after all.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a turn based combat game, you genius.
Not only that, if you really want to "pause", you click enter turn based mode.:steamfacepalm:
Of the other games you've listed, I have only heard of palworld, but looks like they are indie titles.

That said, you are absolutely wrong; all games which are not turn-based, should have a pause menu. If it lacks one, it shows a lack of care as it is an important QoL feature that is present in most singleplayer games.

I love how I'm a genius for listing a Turn-based game. Then why does Pokemon, nearly every Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest game, Monster Santuary, or any other turn based game need a pause button? Let's keep in mind that Baldur's Gate can actually still trigger things in the overworld where a pause button would seemingly be convenient, such as in enemy areas where patrols occur, yet in games where nothing like that happens when standing still a pause button is still present?
Your logic is flawed lol.

It doesn't mean the game lacks care of a QoL feature. In fact I'd hardly even call it QoL. It just negates the need to press one extra button or deal with one extra load screen.
Dealing with an extra possibly 3 seconds of inconvenience to load back into your save file, I think is negligible for most people, which pretty well holds true for pretty much everyone who plays the games I've listed.

But hey lets list some AAA titles since you think indie is what makes the difference!
- Resident Evil 6
- Dark Souls (As well as Demon Souls for a Bonus game!
- Monster Hunter World
- Elden Ring

Just to name a few lol.

There's nothing that says a game needs a pause feature. It's just what's ingrained into your head for what a start button should be for consoles, and what some PC games have adapted to the Esc Button. It never was needed for most games, and a lot of successful modern games are proving that.

If RSDW adds a Pause feature, I'm not gonna cry about it, like you are about it NOT having one lol. But I stand by what I said, it doesn't need it to be good.

And honestly, I wonder if it can even have one. Something that most games that don't have a pause button share (minus a few outlier games) is that even their singleplayer versions run off a mini-server that cannot be turned off. RSDW does the same, and most likely the reason that not only does it not have a pause feature, but probably can't have one to begin with.
THese are my AI generated results of my prompt:

It looks like RuneScape: Dragonwilds does not have a built-in pause feature, even in solo mode. Since the game runs as a server instance, it continues even if you open the menu1. Some players have requested a pause option, especially for single-player2.

If you're playing solo and need a break, the only official way to pause is to exit to the main menu. There might be third-party solutions, but those aren't officially supported!.

Would you like help finding alternatives to manage AFK time in the game?

You seem intent on gish-galloping but I will address some of your points very quickly:

Non sequitur.
I said: "all games which are not turn-based, should have a pause menu."
This doesn't say that pause buttons in some older turn based games aren't redundant or useless.
Don't put words in my mouth, thanks.

Also, on mobile devices, say a nintendo switch for instance, having a pause function is still desirable for battery saving reasons.

In what way is my logic flawed?
If you don't want things to trigger in the overworld, just enter turn based mode. It's the big hourglass button. Can't miss it. Then you can proceed at your own pace.
That's literally how you must progress in some areas and evade enemy patrol unless you have greater invisibility. You are either misinformed and/or never played the game. "lol".

Originally posted by Rose Brigade:

Can be considerably more than that as the game expands. Again, QoL.

And yet, you seem awfully invested in defending poor game design decisions...

Ark survival can do it, even if you run a dedicated server. Albeit, you need admin rights and do it via the console, if I recall correctly. So no, there aren't any technological barriers.

I simply disagree with the rest.

Whether games should have a pause or not is besides the point and another discussion entirely. The "Resume" in RS is very misleading at best and likely not working as intended. As a retired English teacher, resume indicates that something has been paused or stopped. How can you resume something that has not been paused? What is paused that you are resuming when selecting the option in RS?
"Return" would have been better, as Esc (PC) does in fact visually remove you from the game world (while not pausing it).

Resume is perfectly acceptable. When you hit escape you aren't stopping the game, you are stopping your interaction with the game and selecting "Resume" will resume your interaction.

However, what the word is does not matter. Continue, Resume, Return, etc. etc. etc. the word isn't the problem, the problem is the assumption that entering the Escape menu will pause the game. It isn't a given in this type of genre that it will have a pause function as some devs do not implement it in order to prevent players from "afking" resource production. Whether you agree with it or not is beside the point, and not really up to you. This whole "Resume" argument is just an excuse people come up with after making an incorrect assumption to justify in there head that they weren't dumb because they didn't put 2 and 2 together and notice the game doesn't pause. The age old "I'm wasn't stupid, the game is!" blame shift. Like I mentioned before, you can visibly see the game is not paused when in the menu. Trees still move, your character still does animations, crafting stations such as the kiln and sawmill continue to work, shimmer effects on gather-able materials still happen, everything you see and hear shows that the game is not paused. A word change won't change someones inability to grasp the obvious and the game shouldn't be implementing guardrails for lazy or (no offense) dumb people to make things easier then the developers intend it to be. If they don't want a pause, they don't need to add one and if someone isn't smart enough to realize the game doesn't pause...nothing aside from a warning in the menu saying "WARNING: Game does not pause." will prevent those people from making the wrong assumption...and in some cases even that won't work. You do not learn that fire is hot by reading "WARNING: Fire hot" You learn fire is hot by accidentally touching it and finding out what "fire hot" really means.

Be sure to pick up any loose items on the ground that drop from your crafting benches before you leave, though. They will not stick around if you quit the game and load back in.
V Rising doesn't allow you to pause the entire online game world either, nor does Rust, Ark, Elite Dangerous, Runescape (any version) and a myriad of other games. This may be the most ridiculous complaint I have ever seen. Is this your first video game? I have 50 hours in V Rising and can't wrap my head around making a post like this just...wow...
