If it existed and not working properly, then you could say it needs fixing.
I will agree that a pause feature is needed when the time requires it for whatever purpose.
Takes more effort to hit escape and click return to main menu, then have to click play to continue versus say just pressing escape and escape to pause and unpause the game.
At least on the solo player side, Enshrouded did this, initially they had no pause feature for solo players, late last year they added a pause feature by just pressing to pause and unpause.
Now which do you think is faster?
Enshrouded is single player, coop/ multiplayer.
