Still looking for help - Multiplayer, booted back to main menu upon trying to enter world

Title says it all.

Currently in JP, trying to play with a friend in NA. Neither of us have internet connection problems and we can play other multiplayer games just fine (MMOs, MHW, etc).

Whenever either of us try to join each other's server we get a loading screen, and then immediately get booted back to the "press space to start" menu. Multiplayer has been enabled. Server is set to friends only - we've also tried setting it to public with password, but still haven't been able to connect.

Really hoping someone can help with this. There isn't even an error code, so I have no idea where to even start with this. I think a week or so ago I had heard that people in different regions can't play together but that's.. clearly BS, yeah?

I guess it is the different regions - cause other players can play together without problems?

That's.. insane if it's true.
I can't imagine a company would just release a game on early access for steam, and then just.. not have it so people in other regions can connect to each other.

I expect a company to be upfront and clear about its multiplayer capabilities and the state that they release their game in. Intentionally hiding the fact that multiplayer is only for people in the same region from its playerbase seems scummy and makes me not want to support the game.

this is happening to me as well and we aren't in different regions we are in the same house. did you find a fix?
