I can not join my friends server/world
i have done everything including making and linking and epic games account and i still can not find my friends' servers or worlds on the game when searching

this game is trash $30 and i cant even see my friends that are online or find their servers/worlds and all the searching on the internet has done nothing

Make sure the host is online with Steam, right click his/her name and join game is how my brother and I play.

You also can make a public server, save it via password ... then your friends can see/search your server name and join ...

if you friend sitting in the main menu and shows him online, his server will not show up and if he or she got their server selected solo you will not be able too join that. and calling an early access game trash is ridiculous tbh. the price is reasonable for early access then most games and its still can go up once the game fully developed and fixed. my brother and I have no problems finding each other, it pops up right away if were friends so this is your friends doing if u cant find them.

Make sure the server is friends only.

Yes, but you are in discord with your friends and talk to them, or? So you don't sit in the main menu, but go IN your world ... then you say your friend "I am online" ... now - cause you are IN the game, your friend see your world in the server list and can join, or?

well he did not say anything about discord i think, so not sure how many ppl communicate on there but he said friends usually they would be on your steams friends list. ppl afk would just be in the menu same like the real runescape, im js maybe his not logged into his server yet, especially when you play with them before, there server will always shows up. i played online ever sense it started so i never had a problem with my server not showing up while i'm in game. so that's kinda my opinion of what can be happening.
