so i did a lot of digging and i managed to find a saved file or a back up even tho it was not the most recent file i managed to get some stuff back
Discovered the game was installed via Steam in:
makefile
Copy
Edit
D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\RSDragonwilds
Learned that save files are NOT in the install folder, but in:
makefile
Copy
Edit
C:\Users\juane\AppData\Local\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveCharacters
(Had to unhide AppData folder or manually type the path to get to it.)
🧷 Step 2: Located the Save Files
Inside SaveCharacters, found 4 files:
Spree (a fake default save the game made after the crash)
Spree.json.backup (an auto-backup of my real save)
Spree.json.52.verbackup (a versioned backup)
steam_autocloud.vdf (Steam Cloud tracking file)
🧯 Step 3: Backup Everything
Copied all 4 files to a safe folder (like Desktop) named:
nginx
Copy
Edit
Spree_Backup_0506
🧹 Step 4: Tried Replacing the Fake File
Attempted to delete the new fake Spree save
It was locked by Steam Cloud, and kept regenerating
☁️ Step 5: Disabled Steam Cloud
Opened Steam
Right-clicked RSDragonwilds → Properties → General tab
Turned off:
rust
Copy
Edit
✅ Keep game saves in Steam Cloud for RSDragonwilds
🧨 Step 6: Used Safe Mode to Force Delete
Opened msconfig
Enabled Safe boot (Minimal) under the Boot tab
Restarted the PC into Safe Mode (looked zoomed in, no Wi-Fi — that’s normal)
Deleted or renamed the locked Spree file
Copied in Spree.json.backup and renamed it:
nginx
Copy
Edit
Spree
Went back into msconfig, turned off Safe Boot, and restarted normally
🧬 Step 7: Relaunched Game — Spree Was Back!
Game loaded the backup character
It was an older save, but progress was recovered
💡 Optional Final Step (You Can Still Do):
Try renaming the other file:
pgsql
Copy
Edit
Spree.json.52.verbackup → Spree
To see if it contains more recent data
these was the steps i did keep in minde some file paths may be different yo yours , maybe you get lucky and have a saved back up from the day it crashed unlike mee lmfao
