It's part of the experience in most Survival Crafters. You just got a really unlucky spot I guess lol. I'd sneak around enemies for now that you aren't confident in fighting, and try to avoid confrontations when possible. If you play stealthy enough you should be able to get back.
Don't rush
As far as I know, grave timers aren't a thing. You'll get your stuff back if you just take your time.
Getting construction to 40 lets you have a personal chest to access anywhere via magic. It's a good idea to unlock it and keep spares in there.
The reason they added Death's office to RS is because the game was starting to shift its difficulties to different areas of the game. Basically it was meant to be a net for people who were new, and a relief to people who do end-game content.
Plus what would we pay Death in this new world? We don't have GP and shoehorning GP just for death would be kinda pointless lol.
Just don't go to random servers and don't open your servers to public. It invites a-holes to mess with you.
