EDIT Pro Tip: Just lure the warband away from your base and fight there - so they will not destroy your buildings.
Or build like this guy and use massive stone walls to your advantage - just be creative and smart and stop whining:

You go into a dungeon and there's floor spikes in there. Those have to be placed with the same (or similar enough) building systems we use, with added aspects to make it harm or not harm certain entities/allow passage (apparently mobs can't walk through them atm). Why don't we have access to those other than slightly leaning towards trivializing base defense...? They didn't think of it?
Build on top of ruins, and the only thing you need to do is repair your roof when the dragon pukes on it. As others have said, when you hear the dragon warning signs run away from your base, and no damage to it will occur. Or build your base in one of the two caves up on ledges, and all problems are solved. . . except the the continuous need to drink water. I made a hotkey with a timer, so I drink water every 15 seconds, which is just about right. : /
