RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

This has the WORST melee combat I've ever played with...
Please for the love of god fix the melee combat. Every aspect about the combat in this game feels horrible, from the phantom swings that clearly hit but go through the enemy to enemies doing micro dodges with their own immunity frames. Melee combat feels useless and extremely punishing. Not to include the aim bot that EVERY ranged enemy gets. I've been shot by so many arrows at full sprint, mid dodge or even during windstep jumping. Also the fact that all magic based enemies get homing projectiles that just so happen to deal 50% of my HP is ridiculous. I'm in the fractured plains, with bronze gear, so I'm in the appropriate tier of equipment and yet I can get 1 shot by a single druid, 70 poison damage and any one shot from their bleeding attack for 50% damage. God forbid the druid is accompanied by any enemy, you WILL die instantly with no way of fighting back. The roll is so pathetic that it shouldn't be a thing right now. It is so wildly inconsistent that it would be better to disable it and just run away. Just like any roll in any RPG it's "supposed" to give immunity frames. But instead it wastes stamina and give the enemy a free hit on me no matter what. Also don't even get me started on blocking and this so called "parry", they both feel garbage to use. either I block and still take full damage or I try and use the "parry" because parrying is more fun and better to do; and then get hit anyways. Like I can see there was an attempt to give the player a visual notification that you can parry and attack with a yellow flash, but rarely does this work past goblins. And by the grace of god if you do manage to get a parry it feels underwhelming since the enemy just does a 180 roll out from the parry to gain distance and the damage bonus against them is worse than if you were to just hit a heavy attack. Along with wolves/dogs/4 legged creatures, their ability to miraculously catch up to you and attack (stunning you) is garbage. Since you run out of stamina trying to gain space yet they lunge, so you roll and now they closed the gap either way and you're punished for just existing in the area The risk and reward of melee combat are so unbelievable out of proportion that it needs to be dealt with ASAP. Cool game, great ideas not good execution. To include the survival part, I can barely tell which one is more deadly food/water or getting gang banged by every camp of 3 enemies. The fact that I will die in ~5 minutes because I went AFK makes food and water feel horrible to upkeep. It's just a terrible chore that I have to re-do every outing. You spend 20 minutes in the wild? thats 20 minutes of sitting at random cooking station hoping you don't die in your base.

Red berries, dirty water, dodging diagonally to/from projectiles and don't worry about the parry mechanic, just block.

If you use 2h melees you do get punished for blocking, and you probably want to invest into parry practicing, but it's tedius and unless you're pulling 120 FPS constantly it's janky on the best of days.

As for enemies with magic hitting you like the hammer of thor essentially... You're wearing metal armor, so enemies SHOULD be hitting you harder and easier.

Wolves are just a PITA unless you pre-emptively block and then do a 3-4 hit combo on them.

The current combat system for melee definitely favors enemies AI grouping up on you and beating/clawing your face in/off, so only engage at most 2 at a time.

If you see 3 enemies or more, either run or engage them with ranged/magic. Such as air runes knockdown, or the crystal bows special attack.

Not discounting your experience btw, just trying to throw out some tips for the way the game is currently running to help you slay the dragon and get your moneys worth from the game as is.

Holy wall of text, how about some paragraphs to make it easier to read.

1. Get the Abyssal Whip, killing the demon is very easy, all you have to do is jump on top of the building in the swamp when you've aggroed him, then he can't do anything and you can easily shoot him down with ranged or magic. He's on the western side of the swamp

2. Use Tempest Shield when up against the druids. Their homing magic hits you more or less all the time. Also never go without anti poison pots on you, there's also this dragon coming at you all the time.

3. Stamina is terrible to manage yes, and there's animation lock as well when using items. Going up against multiple enemies at your stage can be rough. Sometimes you just have to die.

Bonus tip: Get the crystal. The special attack is very good to have against multiple enemies. The quest isn't too difficult and takes place in the fractured plains.
Did you guys even played the real RuneScape No????? don't sound like it, none of the combats was actually good but im not struggling, no wonder the dragon killed you guys, or you guys just bad gamers, everyday all i see is complainers and ppl crying over a survival early access game, trying to put it down like anyone of you guys has a say, i completed everything so far in the game all the way up too killing Velgar, and now waiting for there magic patch its still not a bad game, better then 80 percent of games that's on steam its not a hard survival either like The Long Dark, easy too learn, how about this method start treating this runescape like a souls-like game where dodging the enemies, threw traps, dragon encounters is vary broken in this game, Velgar boss fight was a good place to practise your dodging at stuff coming later will be harder and will be stronger. also its Runescape you got too use potions and buffs at certain points of the game. Velgar is the strongest character in the game so far everything is not that bad, also Crystal Bow can save you from tough enemies.

I got 2300 hours in RS3 ironman, does that count?
Yes, combat is not so good and smooth like in Enshrouded or Assassines Creed: Shadows.

But it is better then in Mediaval Dynasty or Valheim on the other hand.

I hope they will improve it in the early access period, so it will more dynamic and less clunky in the future. And npc combat will be less "my spells and arrows have an aim bot and homing missile skill".

Smoothbrained attempt at an example there, bud...turn-based, dice-roll combat is in no way similar to Action-combat systems. OG Runescape, RS2, and RS3 didn't have anything but sheet stats... just because you can freely move around in RS2 and RS3 doesn't stop it from being that, and moving doesn't make attacks miss.

You clearly have never played any of them.
