Chopping down trees should be more rewarding resource wise. It's more efficient to scrounge logs of the floor and uproot sapling than it is to fell trees.

well i have some trees in front of my base, so every time i leave i use the magic skills once and get a few logs. the only thing i wish, is that you can reduce the cooldown for magic with a potion or an woodcutter outfit. i think thats way more time efficient.

You can get ash logs faster scrounging them but significantly less xp it's like 150-200 for felling a tree and taking the stump where as you only get 2 or 3 xp for picking up each log. I haven't seen oak logs laying around though personally.
