RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

CTD: Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource
Running Win 10 Pro 22H2
i7-14700K
48GB RAM
GeForce 4070Ti (driver 576.02)

With the exception of still running Win 10, everything is topped-off in Windows Update, Winget, nVidia App, etc.

If I ignore the error (i.e. drag it off-screen without clicking OK), I can get into character creation and the settings menus, but when I try to start a new world, the mountainous splash screen just stays there until I kill the app.

Already tried ensuring the game was being forced to use the GeForce instead of integrated graphics, but that had no change, nor did reboots, disabling DLSS, etc.

Gonna try holding my nose and updating to Windows 11. Wish me luck...

how much ram does the 4070ti have? ideally you may something in the background eating it.
Its an early access of a game in BETA stage, Don't expect that it will work in all possible configurations. Great that you mention it. Try more standard settings!?
There's been really serious reported issues with newer NVIDIA drivers. Downgrade to 566.36 driver and this problem will disappear.

The product spec page for the one I have states 12GB, and I already confirmed nothing else was using the GPU in Task Manager after multiple reboots.

FWIW, Conan Exiles and Dragon's Dogma 2 both run great on this machine, so I'd be surprised if this is really the issue -- when I can make it to the settings menu and tell it to auto-detect what I should be able to do, it puts everything at the max settings.

Maybe it's the bug that Arc mentioned (really hoping it's not though).

Well, updating to Windows 11 didn't help. I'll post the relevant entries from Event Viewer in case it helps the devs (or anyone else searching on this issue).

Thanks for the link. Just installed it, but the only change is now it's back to an immediate CTD instead of when I try to progress from character creation to playing. I'm guessing this game just needs some more time in the oven...
Arc Apr 22 @ 7:26am
Both faulting modules are the Nvidia driver FYI, i.e. the crash happens when the game calls something in your Nvidia driver.

And again, if you do not have BIOS updated, do that as soon as by default regardless if it is related or not.
LARA Apr 22 @ 11:26am
Yeah, I'll be doing that this evening for sure.

Incidentally, on my older PC, this game ran fine on the first try:

Win10 Pro 22H2
i5-13500
32GB
GeForce 2070 Super (572.70)

Guess I could stream it to the new one in a pinch, but being as a remaster of my favorite Elder Scrolls game just dropped, I might be letting this game cook a while longer whilst I reminisce in Cyrodil...

If I could buy you a beer right now, I would. So after installing the latest BIOS update for my MSI motherboard (Pro Z790-A Max WiFi), now the game launches without a hitch, and I'm standing in what looks like a ruined cathedral.

Appreciate you looking out for your fellow gamer!

i had the exact same problem with hogwarts legacy and with this game too
