RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Am I the only one that hates this game?
My biggest problem: No saved game option. Not even a dated/timed auto save to go back to so you only wasted minutes or an hour, let alone a whole day or more progress. If you push into areas to explore and figure it out, and you die -which you probably will. SPLAT. You lose all gear and have to start all over again and risk dyine again and again to get the gear back... or just give up the gear for who knows how long -which you worked hard to acquire. Now some may be cool with that, but I'm not. Makes me want to toss the game out the window. Makes me hate this game.

You can always save by quit to the the main menu ... yes, cost 30 seconds to log out and relog, but better than nothing? It is early early access, guess there will be an option later.

And no, I like the game. Hate is no category I have in games.

Thanks for the feedback... But... am I wrong that once you come back into the game at the point you saved by exiting, then continue to play and die... you cannot go back to the point you exited and a new save (after death) is written over it... ?

PS. My OP is feedback for the creators to seriously consider placing some sort of "go back to" save system, instead of it resembling an arcade game in that manner.

You do realize there are gravestones when you die and you can pick up all your gear? You can die 5 times and there will be 5 different gravestones. I had no issues getting my gear back after dying multiple times

Of course I know there are gravestones... In a tough area where a player character was already killed, and likely a dangerous zone. If you have to gear up all over again, to get to that hostile location, and die again trying... or run naked and hope for the best, just to die multiple times... Do you now understand the frustration level that can be avoided with a saved game system instead of an arcade game style re-start?

How about an explanation then? I'd thank you for that.

Dunno what to say... that's literally a part of *this* genre of game, Jagex aren't inventing a whole new genre of game here, they're making their own version of a very popular/common genre of 'whole new world... start with nothing... gather resources and build and explore and get more powerful over time and if you die... you lose what you had on you"

follow by "you can still return to where you died and retrieve loot... but if you rushed there with nothing you'll likely die again"

some games take it a step further, with a limit of just 1 grave marker, dying again loses it for good. Apparently (i say apparently cause i don't know myself yet) Jagex is generous here and you can have multiple graves at once. on top of being allowed to retain the armour, other games you lose the armour too

Anyway, it's a staple design element of these sort of survival games, hell... even Runescape itself has this very old death mechanic. Use to be when you died, you only kept 3 items and everything else was up for grabs by anyone who was nearby. Nowadays it's just die and pay a fee. rendering gravestones and blessing and the rush back pointless.

There's going to be a creative mode eventually....

I was loving it till i click public to try to get some coop gaming in, only to find out even with friendly fire off people will only come in, steal the hours of game time you looted up, take it and log all within minutes. This games beanz and I'm deleting it till some security measure are taken...

I do so much early access that I have learned a few things....

Most games recently launch without a save option or pause option and later add it. I want both these things and am pretty sure they will be added. Some early access just needs to be put aside for a few months if there are game breaking things that I "hate"

Second thing I have learned is that steam forums is the least productive place for dev feedback. This is the place to argue or maybe get some help from the community. If you really want to express your suggestions or opinions so devs hear you try their official site or discord. On the store page it states that is where they will consider feedback. Here most suggestions get ridiculed and devs never even see it.

Fantastic response, thank you. It's logical then, this genre is not for everyone. Although, with some code through suggestions by players not particularly "with" that genre, they can increase appeal range and sell to a bigger audience with a few tweaks. Would someone that lives this type of game be dejected by a save option? I would think not. Yet it can acquire more players. just my opinion. Thank you (again) for yours, it's appreciated.

I don't think anyone is ever actually against the idea of saving it's just.... how?

Even if you're playing alone, the entire design is that of a persistent world. if you're playing with 3 others and die.... how do you reload a save ? when the entire world is persistent.

I just don't see a way that it would ever be feasible, and clearly all the devs of every other game of this nature also don't see a way because from all the ones i've played, it's just not been done.

Heck, you can literally take your character across all the other 'worlds' because of this very nature of common design.

The only way games get around this is creative mode features.
