Building near the temple you first spawn at makes your base area immune to attacks, and there is a free teleport there already. Just throw teleport spots down anywhere you want to go for harvesting things and then jump back to safety.
starting area

Is this really the truth? I think I saw a video where someone builded next to the starting church and goblins raided his base? (But can't find the video now)
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the tutorial quests prevent raids or some events. Well, right up to the wise old man's ingenious idea to build in a Dragon hot spot, that is...

Building at the start isn't a bad idea for accidental deaths or bed destruction, though. I personally have two "Did you die?" boxes / houses at spawn for just a calamity. Nice to have for visiting friends too lazy to craft things, too.

the lowest level goblins though, and no dragon attacks, they raid you, not the base

4 goblins that dont attack anything if you're not standing next to it

Zone borders seem to be free of roaming mobs
at lvl1 just build teleport to go oround or warbands gonna fck zour base up
as others have stated the starting zone is the best spot as you get teleports for free and they are limitless. you will not get dragon or warband attacks. there is already a teleport next to your base.

Personally, I built my first base near where the Old Man goes to, near the Ruins with Goblins.

That place is insanely abundant of materials such as; Cabbage, Potatoes, FLAX ESPECIALLY FLAX (for making thread which is literally used for everything). Hundreds of chickens, and cows for easy food. Simply build on the side of the river before the bridge crossing over, and you're basically golden, have everything you could want for early game building stuff within seconds of away from your base.

I can't see any point in building a base near the beginning church/temple, sounds like a terrible idea.

The goblin raids, and Dragon attacks aren't too scary once you get a bone dagger (which again NEED FLAX FOR), considering they die in 3 hits, and the Dragon is stupidly easy to evade, and from what I can tell his poison damage doesn't break, your structures.
hidden base area in a mountain in fractured plains is the best base for me

You self tell us the point to build at the beginning church ;)

1. If you build at your place with the "insanely abundant materials", then you overwirte with your buildings the spawnpoints of chicken, flax and all the other goodies ... so just put there only a teleporter and you can quick travel there to gather and farm.

2. The beginning church has no dragon and warbands ... so settle there and (see 1) teleport to all your favourite farming spots in the world.

Why would I put a teleport to the materials, where I have no crafting stations setup, just to go back to the church area where my main base is once my inventory is full, and spend all that extra traveling time, when literal seconds away from all the gathering spots, I could have storage chests, crafting stations, etc, etc. It makes absolutely Zero sense to teleport back to the church, as coming by vault keys is insanely easy, because each dungeon has like 4 of them (which are needed to make Teleport points.

But hey man, you do you. If you prefer walking needlessly just to portal back to the church to store stuff, and or craft stuff, have at it.

And as I mentioned before, Goblins die in 3 hits, the Dragon doesn't seem to do any damage to your buildings, and if I "really" wanted to, I could just install the mod that makes my building take no damage period, ergo, it's again pointless to cripple yourself building a base so far away from materials.

Again though, you do you. Imma do me. And wherever materials are easy enough, and dense enough to making crafting easier, that's where I'm going to be.

You can build you base nearly everywhere, just make sure its not on the ground. I made my main base in fractured Plains on top of one of those stonegates. I can only reach it if i use the jump magic. Warbands cant attack me and i can just snipe them from above lol.
