RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Why wasn't this free until actual release?
I was hyped as hell to play this and then went to steam store, found out it was 30 dollars. I thought this was some kind of beta access thing where you could just go in and test the game. It still seems like we're just testing the game, only this time we're paying for it?

No thank you. I only spend money on certainties like Runescape. Not saying this is a bad game at all but companies REALLY NEED TO STOP charging money for tests. Early access could easily be several years and I want to pay for something I know will release.

Not like Pax Dei where it died within a week and is on life support. How do we know the same isn't gonna happen here? Runescape is a good IP but the playerbase for this game is niche. They very well might just abandon Dragonwilds and go back to supporting Runescape.

Who else here is old enough to remember they used to pay *us* for testing their game?

because EA titles are made to generate funds for the game itself as well as get feedback on the game itself. because the games unfinished, not optimised and needs work. hence early access

To me it seems like you dont know how the steam early access program works. I would suggest getting informed

This is true but it only applies to companies who don't already have a big IP. Jagex has Runescape to generate their funds and they aren't exactly starving for money
Pax Dei's issues had nothing to do with early access.

What are you on? I've been alpha/beta testing since Ultima Online and I've never been compensated with money. lol

That's why I asked who's old enough to remember. I'm old :(

i think were splitting hairs here. they have access to the early access program, steam has a huge audience of players, its a smart move. and not a very valid critique overall

Ill just wait a few weeks and see what happens before I buy. If it goes to 3k active players then i'll know. Maybe ill be proven wrong and it becomes the next big thing. Sadly that's unlikely

i dont think its gonna become the next big things if we compair it to pal world as a example. If they play their cards right ti will be a very good game with a heavyer runescape leaning and a more unique game in the genre. However hard to say until we see what happens next

the way you worded it made me think we had to pay again once fully released LOL

but this is pretty common with games..i only hope that they do like the Very few other games..and let us take the progress we made to the official game upon release..rather than forcing us to start over again... stated the knowledge is more beneficial..

As I told that other guy, Jagex already has a lot of money rolling in to pay any employees working on Dragonwilds. They aren't receiving nothing, they're being paid from another game and honestly, this game's profits probably won't ever be enough help keep them afloat. This is more of a pet project of Jagex's than anything, it was always going to be niche

"Because you have no job" that is the logic of a child. Only a child would criticize someone for being wary of a product and spending their hard-EARNED money on it. Your generation just impulse-buys everything and then wonder why they have no more money for rent.

One day you'll want to buy a house, and the mortgage lender will deny you because he sees on your billing statements that you spent 60% of your income on some Chinese Gacha lootboxes.

You bought the game. Now you just need to wait for the updates? What are you talking about paying to test their game lol. If you are not capable enough to read their store page and what they say about the state of the game then idk. Ranting on forums is not the way to go.

I didn't buy their game yet.

I did read their store page, hence me coming here making this topic. Though I was under the impression from the various gaming journalist sites that it was going to be free even in early access..Had no idea we had to pay until I saw the pricetag

Quoting or referencing gaming journalists as a reliable source of information was already deeply flawed logic. Most EA titles are not free.

To me it seems like you dont know how the steam early access program works. I would suggest getting informed
early access is not a KICK STARTER to generate funds.

Official Steam Documentation :

What Early Access Is Not
Early Access is not a way to crowdfund development of your product.
You should not use Early Access solely to fund development. If you are counting on selling a specific number of units to complete your game, then you need to think carefully about what it would mean for you or your team if you don't sell that many units. Are you willing to continue developing the game without any sales? Are you willing to seek other forms of investment?

So stop spreading misinformation. So sick of Early Access games that go nowhere!

Just shows what a bunch of corrupt clowns Steam are. They always want us to read their little rules and terms but its okay for companies to ignore the first 2 sentences lol
