20 Hours review NO BUY
Game is literally at the very beginning of it's development and it lacks content even in terms of EA. Most of the craft feels like useless or almost useless e.g Potion crafting, different food recipes with no difference etc. Overall it's like tech demo where some functionality is shown but nothing more.

Too early to buy, come back after a year or 2

This echos my feelings on the game. Most of the positive reviews are from people who have only played a few hours and don't realize how little of the game actually exists yet. What does exist is fairly polished, which shows signs of a good foundation, but it is far from enough to warrant the asking price. This is very much still in Alpha, not Beta.

You played it for 20 hours and called it a tech demo, which is just being rude to the game in general. You have the skills, the combat, the crafting, the building and a lot of the world traversal. A tech demo wouldn't be any of that and would just be walking around looking at what the tech can do. You bought an early access game and were expecting more, despite the store page telling you exactly what you'd get.

Playing for less than 20 hours and giving it a review would be the rude/insulting thing to do. You have to give it a fair shake. It doesn't actually have 20 hours worth of content. You can spend as much time playing as you want, but it doesn't take that long to complete the game.

You have "some" of the skills. You have janky combat. You have minimalistic crafting. You have traversal on a small world. The building system is great though. When it feels like 90% of the content and even some of the core systems are not in the game yet, it's fair to view it as a tech demo. The guy clearly knows what EA means. He said it's lacking even for an EA title.

Of course you have "Some" of the skills. They tell you all of this on the store page. The game is in EA until early 2026, but to call it a tech demo, is just wrong.

It's got a great foundation. I think it absolutely can be a great game. But people buy based on what it is, not what it might one day be. EA games are always a risk. A risk I'm willing to make most of the time. But it's not for everyone.

You are entitled to that opinion just as much as they are theirs.

I'm wondering why 82% of people gave the game a positive review. I've seen this same viewpoint as OP on tons of youtube videos and game forums. It's people just wanting to like the game since it's multiplayer and "runescape" in its name. If it was any other game, it'd be a different story of public reception I think.

I'm sure it being a part of the Runescape IP is a factor. It's getting a lot of streamer hype and the first few hours are actually really fun, which is all those streamers play of it. The reviews have a similar issue. Most of the positive reviews are from people with very few hours played. This will shift in time as reviews from those who put in more hours start to come in. I expect the game to shift from "Very Positive" to "Mostly Positive" over the next month or so. The game does have a very good foundation. There just isn't much on that foundation yet.

These people are the same ones that complain about any game that is well received. They hate seeing others enjoy something, and they enjoy it themselves but refuse to let others know. Instead they put a crap ton of hours into it and then complain there is nothing to do when they skipped all the dialogue and rushed all the content the day it comes out.

It is so boring seeing this on every forum now.

30 hours here and I feel the complete opposite of you. Interesting how that works.

For you to know Early Access only means that the is not ready yet, however some of the games in EA are 90% done some 5% and when people see only 5% it's ok that they are not satisfied with that

... Exactly. You said "It's at the start of development." which would be wrong. Early access games have to be at least 50% feature (Not content.) complete to be early access on steam. You can thank the mass amount of greenlit trash projects over the years for that one (This is a good thing.) Which would make what we have, not a tech demo.

The store page highlights exactly what you get for your money at current state, to expect anything else, is a fool's expectations.

In its current state all the features for now are placeholders, and bare bone ideas which are not working together at all

How exactly are they place holders? The skills aren't going to change, balance? Yes, change, no. You won't see a new animation for the axe rune magic, nor will you see the occulus building skill just "Poof" out of existence, unless they inherently break the game, which they don't. Again, this is not a tech demo. Want to see what a tech demo looks like?

That's a tech demo, to showcase the power of the UE5, which developers have still yet to properly utilize. Yes, this demo was playable, no, it was not extensive.

Yes, so many ppl try out early access and do not understand what that is. Jagex even state its a'BETA' to make the point more clear, but ppl is still wailing and hollering and make a fool of them selves. We are supposed to do reports of pros and cons, right!?
