Jeezuz, not a GAME STORE account, though! Why do people still think this? The agreement is to just use the Epic ONLINE SERVERS to facilitate online play, which also facilitates crossplay. You probably already have games from Steam where thier devs do this - it's simply cheaper and more convenient than a company spending time and money making their own.
I actually was somewhat interested in this to be honest
Requires 3rd-Party Account: Epic Online Services (Supports Linking to Steam Account)
Not in the way a lot of people are thinking. All you do is click the button to use EOS, and if you already have an Epic account connected to Steam, it uses it. If you don't, an "empty" account is automatically created for you. That's all you do is click one button.
Steam (and a game's developers) also get telemetry sent to them, via the API, but the Epic Tinfoil Hatters don't make any fuss about it. They probably just don't even know about it! 😄
